As I am from Guwahati, Assam. Meghalaya is my neighbour state or you can call my aunt state. Many good experiences I have with Shillong. From the first trip with my bike ridding to my ex girlfriend’s last meet. Endless childhood memories attached with Shillong.
The city is situated top of the hills. Going to Shillong is also a epic journey. Specially on bikes. Hill roads and sharp curve turns gives you goosebumps while driving. Ups and downs are another characteristics of the Shillong roads. You feel some real driving experience. On the road you get Barapani Bridge which also a beautiful place to take rest and see the beauty of the nature and feel the fresh air as well. You can also book a boat for boating. It cost little bit expensive but to get something you have to invest something. On the entire road you feel the existence of sew up Garo hills.
You get the local fruits on entire road of road side stores. I love to eat Khasi-Tamul( Khasi Nut), burnt corn and pineapple.
Rain. talking about Shillong and rain is not mentioned. This can never happen. Whenever you visit shillong on bike. Never forget to bring Rain coat. You can never figure out the Shillong’s weather. You will get rain in different part on the road. So keep rain coat is must.
Never go Shillong on Sunday because sunday is their market holiday.
Police bazar is best place for shopping and different kinds of foods. If you don’t eat Beef or Pork then please equire first. Their resurants has both the dishes.
Best time to visit in shilong is October - February. In this time the nature of shillong is full in beauty mode. If you ever visit to shillong, try visit Mawlyllong for root bridge, Dawki for hiking, Cherapunjee for huge waterfalls etc.
