I read some other book of Forbes but cant remember it for the life of me. Wasnt impressed then and am not now.
A British head of intelligence when involved in a murder conspiracy, how he escapes it, proves himself innocent and saves the world forms the crux of the story. No side stories, no deviations, no ulterior motives, its just plain chases all across the Europe. No suspense, no traitors, no sudden friends, no thrill.
All the characters are single dimensional, maybe the killer Horowitz had some stuff which could have been developed a bit more. One expects a lot more from such a great assassin hes described as, than what he does. And what was it with that girl Eva Hendrix, why was she even there. May be that was the suspense, how shes used.
Theres no heroine, theres a hint of one, and she does nothing but fret about food and sleeping quarters all the time. There are two sidekicks, who are more interesting than the concerned Hero. Liked both of them, but both the characters can have more flesh on them than was given to them.
All in all, one improbable story, one totally out of control set of people flying around the country and racing on German autobahns. One thing the novel did was raise my interest about autobahns. Half of the time, they keep racing on them going from Switzerland to Brussels through Germany and back again.
Its as interesting and gripping as a drive across a bumpy road. Maybe one will be more interested while driving on bumpy roads just to avoid the bumps. :) yes, that bad. Id suggest you to avoid this book, Ive not found any good ones by Forbes till now, but this definitely is not THE one.
