A Classic Movie

Sholay is stands up on top all my favorite films , Second to none!!!!I have seen the movie nothing less than a hundred times & have the mp3s for most of the dialogues.I realized how well I have seen the movie when in a quiz competion in my college the opposite team was asked what was the name of Gabbar Singh’s father in Sholay? Do any of you know that? Well I answered it when the question passed on to our team. The normal movie available in cassesstes(2) is a 3 ½ hr movie but now the DVD version of the movie is 4 ½ hrs. So goota watch it once more on DVD. They have shown Thakurs hands being cut , Sachin being killed by Gabbar ‘s henchmen etc.

One wont believe , the movie was declared a box office flop after week. But God knows what made Mr. Sippy’s star shine after that. Each character has been correctly chosen & they have played it so very well. Right from Sanjeev Kumar to may Asrani or Kesto or Sachin . Who will forget Amitabh s dialogue “ Tumhara naam kya hai Basanti” or the Dharmendra suicide scene or Hema’s opening Tanga scene. Each of them have been given rolls that still one does’nt forget the dialogues of Asrani , the jailor, ” Hum angrez ke zamane ke jailor hain , aaj kal ke jailoron ki tarah nahi jo kaidiyon ko sudharne ki fikar mein lage rahte hain”. The way he keeps tripping in the steps. The roll played by Viju Khote (Kalia) “ Sardar maine aapka namak khaya hai, Sardar to which Gabbar says “To ab Goli kha”& that by Mac Mohan Mc (Sambha) Gabbar calling him, “ Are ho Sambha ! Kitna inaam rakhe hain sarkar humpar.”!! I mean these are unforgettable. I can keep writing dialogues of the movie , you people might get bored . I know them by heart, I know it is the same with most of you too.

Inspite of being one of the most techinically correct movies I have noticed a few bloopers, I have noticed just two see if you can find more;

1) When Amitabh and Dharmendra do a runaway from prison, they go to Surma Bhopali to collect thier share of money which is Rs.1000, Dhamendra says ’’surma bhai hum apne hazar rupey le ne aaye hai’’ after a brief pause Surma bhopali says ’’acha acha hazar rupey...........doo soo ke das hai gin lo, if their are 10 x 200 = 2000rs so why does he give the extra 1000rs

2)When Amitabh ’’dies’’ in the lap of Dharmendra, his legs are crossed with each other. So how come his legs are wide spread, after the camera returns to them, after showing others?

Sholay went on to become the most successful film in Indian film history. The large cast of super-stars contributed to that, as did the memorable dialogues between Gabbar and Baldev Singh, and between Gabbar and his henchmen. Amjad Khan played the role with perfection, and not without sardonic humor. His lines became so popular that cassettes of Gabbar’s dialogues were being sold separately, to be learnt by rote by millions of movie goers.

To end the review, Gabbar Singh’s father names was Hari Singh!! & His Grandfather’ s Dashrath Singh….. this is when in the initial part of the movie Gabbar is taken to jail & court announces a 7 yr jail for him., the background voice says, ”Gabbar Singh vald HariSingh vald Dashrath Singh ko saat saal kaide bamushkkat sunayi ja rahi hai”
