When we in india started to hear about something called INTERNET & whatever we heard about it , I thought its gonna change my life , that we can read newspapers online , I thought I will be able to read magazines like TIME & ROLLING STONES for free on the net(me, stupid??) , but then those were the dreams , and ofcourse VSNL made sure NET is a privilage of ultra rich for a couple of years(the phone bill still comes home with astronomical figures) .
U must be wondering why am I telling u all this in the review of rediff.com? well b’coz oflate I started going to rediff for reasons even I dunno but what I found was amazing. Their articles on current affairs r class apart. Thats the kinda journalism I havnt found in any goddamn newspaper or magazines in last 10 years. Be it cricket or be it sports the quality of the articles r better than any other place(atleast I know of). The kind off extensive reaserch they do for every topic is just what any reader would want. And that makes me think why dont I get to know all these details in my morning newspaper. Really say for example the BHARAT SHAH arrest drama , which was debated in the print media majorly but no one gave us any details of BHARAT SHAH Bhai’s business or the cases against him or the most recent BALCO disinvestment case, U can find details givin by Arun Shourie in parliament exposing the double standards of Ajit Jogi & Congress. The list is endless .And if u r cricket buff look no further , they have some high class articles. And u can even comment on the articles after u have read them.
Now what conclusion I have come to as why we dont get such stuff in print media must be the limittion of space. And if u have times of india than well do I say anything about it?? I wonder if its an advertising paper which also prints news in between or the other way round.
Other than current affairs I really cant say much about the rest of the sections with conviction as the rest of the stuff is same in any site . Entertaintment, Astrology, Sports etc etc..
So next time u feel newspapers r not giving u enuff news to last ur morning tea u know where to go, as they say its just a click away.
