Pubs - whether they need to be closed at 11 ???!!?

Should pubs be allowed to open or close at 11 or 12 or 1 or all night or whatever?

The pub culture was something that operates more in the European beer guzzling countries that enable the town – village people to do the following

  • enjoy the fruits or labor on fermented produces

  • a place to exchange talks and job exchanges

  • a place to kill time by listening music in the corner

  • a place to have a good time or a small celebration

–               could be a birthday, a promotion or a small election victory

It may have chess games, billiard pool tables, dart boards, tiddlywinks or any kinda local games that enable kids to spend time, have cigarettes. The local law would make his presence felt from time to time to ensure no card sharping events happen, booze is good kind, it operates within local law and is a good tax payer.

Much of the beer would be local product in the form of draught beer, wafers, fish and chips, sizzlers and steaks, ham sandwiches etc.

In effect, it keeps guys with high spirits a place to while away, not spend too much money, have light spirits, spend time with friends, or sales meetings or discussions in the late evening. The classier ones may have a singer with a piano, stand up comedian with some act, or some dancing girls late in the evening peak hours and maybe a entrance fee.  Not a place to take out a girl, as most are generally more of a guy thing. Most blokes with gals are given dirty looks, though in the cities, since spirit companies are also targeting earning girls, offerings have changed. The net effect is higher prices, potential for dates and sex, and potential for local law to make money – big money – mafias to aid – more money – rich kids to do stupid things.

When such a thing operates in a country where everything is a God thing, i.e. if u want to flash ur organ, there has to be a God to promote or protect your right, and a mob to defend that right – and we are a country that has made a God business of eating or not eating veg / non-veg, laws to ensure anyone who can read/write English to pay extra for drinking beer, drinking at 6 in the morning, at 12 in the afternoon, to be served by a maid, to be served by her mother, to be served by her grand-mother etc., the potential to harass and harry is complete, Gods to ensure mother-in-laws can tonsure their D-in-laws, ensure she does not work.

As long as you stick to the local language, clothes, don’t speak English, wear the right local religion symbols and sticks and colors, political colors, vehicle with some colored phallus on top, u can do what u want.

Most of the political class, police establishments do not know good English and hate those who do. So even as someone owns a large bidi manufacturing unit with small girls rolling the stuff at 15-20 s. a day, you will not be allowed to watch sunjay dutt having his cigar on screen.  Wonder what they would have done if Rajnikant had not gone religious:-),  he had the best cigarette tricks in the business

Your main aim is to drink – eat good, spend the night of fun.

My advice, KNOW UR COUNTRY AND WORK AROUND WHAT WORKS FOR YOU –  Some one is suckering you to spend 7 Rs. Per SMS – and for 7 such SMS, u can use the local 5-star row or loos, smuggle some beer, Blue-tooth technology with ear-phone bike helmets, and make that a pub, or bike it out 20 kms down somewhere, befriend a small shack owner on some out-skirts and rent that cottage, and have him serve tandoori delights for a price.

India has shady pubs with dance bar or cheap night-club environment, run by shady criminal backgrounds, sleazy babes where the beer would cost 4-50 times local price.

On the other hand, the Baristas / coffee day joints have the right pub environments

Now u decide what u want and where - the rest is only nomenclature to part the fool and his earnings
