Dentures Please!

Beware!

Its kind of funny to start a review with a warning note but I sincerely take it my duty to warn you guys about the risk you take when you go to an inefficient dentist.

Iam now going to relate my experience or rather horrid experience at the Shree Balaji Dental College here at Chennai.

“Oh my God! I felt like a thousand boulders were rolling in my mouth. Such was my toothache. Deciding to visit the dentist, I thrust my head into the dental hospital and was immediately dragged into a whirlpool of nauseating smells that filled the place.

After a long wait in the waiting room I was asked to come in. One look at the dentist’s enchanting smile revealing his tobacco stained reddish brown teeth made me gasp. Oh my gosh! Where have I landed? From the frying pan into the fire ? But I knew there was no escape from this godforsaken place. Alas! They had no emergency fire exits.

The dentist examined the cavity in my tooth, banged on it with what looked like a hammer, flashed his smile and asked “Do you feel the pain ?”

“No, it’s soothing”, I remarked sarcastically. Who did he think I was? , to bear all the pain that he so generously rendered, of course , undoubtedly accompanied by his entrancing smile. He then started digging, digging and digging. Had he dug a little further he would have found spring water gushing out.

Then he did the most embarrassing thing. He called out to his assistants. ”Come on here boys. A very rare case it is!” Not as rare as his, I thought .“Have a peep at the canals. You can see the…….blah……..blah.” My tolerance was reaching its limit. Each one of them was looking at my tooth as if it were King Tut’s mummified finger in a museum.

After a long lingering look at my precious possession, one of the guys ventured “Chief, Is that the root canal?”

My patience had reached its heights. “No, it is the Buckhingham canal “, I shouted. Alas! I couldn’t hear my own voice, couldn’t even feel my lips. The dreadful doc had injected an anesthesia to numb the area. I felt like I’d been deprived of the right to speak and express my opinion about their horrifying treatment.

In the end, the chief Doctor stuffed some horrible smelling chemical into the cavity and closed it with cotton. The funeral ceremony was over and it was time for me to leave. I turned to go. “Excuse me madam .My fees.” “Uh-oh, I forgot “. “That’s okay. Please don’t feel sorry.” Sorry! I regretted stepping into the place. I’d been taken for a ride through a miniature hell. I had been made to exhibit my priced antique piece to his assistants. After all this he dares ask me for payment? In fact I should be grateful to the almighty for saving me from further disaster. That day I swore never to step into a dentist’s place, or atleast a dentist who has got assistants who’d peep into my mouth and nonchalantly ask him if it was the Niagra falls or the river Nile flowing. That night I prayed that I be born with a set of dentures in my next birth atleast.”

Warning: I might have sounded cynical but I swear I can’t stop myself from grinding my teeth when I think of those nightmarish days .May be I should have done it (grinding I mean) when the dentist put his hands into my mouth first to examine my priceless possession. What say readers?

This is just my experience that I related to you. Let me tell you the facts – no doubt the college is a reputed one, the patients get to pay only a minimal amount as the fees, the equipment are good but the one big problem when it comes right down to treating the patients is that the experienced doctors let the inexperienced students take care of the scapegoats (the patients); and the process takes days together which (believe me!) is a painful task for the victim.
