Ive come to really enjoy Dreamworks animated offerings, just because I know theyll be DIFFERENT than your usual Disney offerings. I enjoyed Prince of Egypt, Antz, and Chicken Run immensely, and after hearing about Shrek ,
I couldnt wait to see it.
In a world where all of the fairy tales youve read and seen are real, a despotic ruler Farquad has rounded up all Fairy Tale Creatures and piled them all into the swamp. Which already happens to be inhabited by an ogre, Shrek.
Shrek (voiced by Mike Myers )and a talking Donkey (Eddie Murphy )travel to Farquads kingdom to find out why hes evicted all of the Fairy Tale Creatures (which include Pinocchio, the Seven Dwarfs, Three Blind Mice, Sleeping Beautys Fairies, the Gingerbread Man, Riding Hoods Wolf, and many more...). Farquad enlists Shrek and Donkey to rescue a Princess Fiona ( Cameroon Diaz )for him to marry, and the story goes from there.
Some of the biggest laughs in Shrek came from the expectations we have: Farquad is no Prince Charming, for example, and Princess Fiona isnt your typical Damsel In Distress. The part where she burps may be my favorite part of the entire movie--youll never watch Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty the same way again.
The Donkey. Eddie Murphys Donkey easily gets the most laughs in the movie, and has a nice storyline of his own going on with a potential mate thats very funny.
Animation is getting advanced every time a new animated film is been produced. With Shrek you can see it and appreciate it to the full. There was always a problem that the human characters in animation films were not so believable. This film proves that with computer animation they are about to solve this aspect of animated films.
Word is that Dreamworks is already working on Shrek 2 which I think could be good or bad of course, depending on the direction they take it. But I think that it is gonna be as good as Shrek considering their Track-record.
You take a little bit of fantasy, toss in plenty of romance, a fair princess, the ugly ogre, a hilarious sidekick, some wrestlin, some kick-arse tunes, awesome visuals and you simply cannot help but love this movie no matter what your age. So all in all it is a great movie and it has to be seen by everyone!
