Haunting and disturbing

The Silence of the Lambs is based on the novel by Thomas Harris and was released in 1991.

The Silence of the Lambs casts Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins in a haunting psychological thriller which leaves a lasting impression. The movie is about a psychotic serial-killer who kidnaps people and then skins them. The police are baffled as yet another victim is kidnapped by the psychotic killer. Dr.Hannibal Lector(Anthony Hopkins), a former psychiatrist, is the only one who can help them catch the killer as the murderer was once his patient. The only hitch is that Dr.Hannibal Lector is himself insane and has cannibalistic tendencies. The movie is full of disturbing scenes which make an impression on the mind. Clarice Starling(Jodie Foster) is a young FBI agent who is assigned the tricky task of getting Hannibal Lector to divulge the possible whereabouts and plans of the killer. What follows is a engrossing series of conversations between them. It is a race against time for Clarice as she tries to save the kidnapped victim. The plot is further thickened and twisted with the clever escape of Hannibal Lector from his cell.

All in all, it is one of the best movies of its genre and is a must watch for people who like thrillers but is unsuitable for young viewers. The movie won five Academy Awards for-Best Picture, Best Actor (Anthony Hopkins), Best Actress (Jodie Foster), Best Director (Jonathan Demme), and Best Adapted Screenplay (Ted Tally). The sequel to the movie has also been released and is named Hannibal.
