Director: Khalid Mohamed;
Cast: Tabu, K.K. Menon, Bhumika Chawla, Rahul Bose, Riya Sen, Jimmy Shergil, Ashmit Patel.
Let me begin with the comment I should have made at the end of the review... that it’s a complete BAKWAS and a typical bollywood MASALA movie. Worst ……… that too by a film critic turned director.
It has a plethora of actors and ya at least three stories going parallel to each other….. Sitting in the hall you need to struggle to keep track of the three stories.
Now the plot of movie:
Silsilay, is a movie of three aimless stories.
The first story is of a film actress (Bhoomika Chawla) who falls in love with a bookie (Rahul Bose) who is two-timing his girl-friend, who in turn is two-timing him...sounds complex...dont bother...there is more to digest……..
The second story a the small-town girl Riya Sen - Anushka, needs to choose between her dangerously undependable lover (Ashmit Patel) and her quietly loving boss (Jimmy Shergil), Riya Sen who looks stunning in the movie and is afraid to lose her virginity and is consoled by her overly promiscuous friend to do it. Ashmit Patel steps into the story [why and from where, no body can tell] and Jimmy Shergill looking to gain her attention as expected lots of unnecessary necking, petting and smooching in the film between Ashmit and Riya.
Third story is equally crappy and still more ridiculous. You would have seen a story of love triangle, quadrangle or so, but its a love polygon…...with lots of short circuits…….. I mean….. love junction… [I don’t know how to describe…] (figure it out yourself if you watch the movie). In this story Tabu is a housewife whose husband (KK Menon) is going out with a air hostess (Celina Jaitley). But what???? Her son falls in love with his own mother. F... what a story??
There are more bullshits waiting for you when Shah Rukh Khan coming across in the form of narrator in between stories and scenes. SRK does a saving act by signalling to the audience how he behaves when nature calls arrive...
Now some positive side:
Songs are good.
Tabu enacts the role of Rehana - a housewife who must confront the fact that her husband is being unfaithful to her… is versatile in her acting.
Bhumika-Zia - a fast-rising bollywood actress whose live-in relationship is about to break-up with the man who groomed her for a film career.... looked glamorous.
Riya Sen - Anushka - a telephone receptionist who longs to discover tenderness in her relationship with a wealthy suitor.... delivers her best performance.
Celina …….. looks wow!!
Jimmy as actor has done justice. Rahul bose role is as always excellent.
