I paid by credit card and bought some Air Deccan tickets for my sister who does not reside in India. The tickets were portrayed as refundable at the time of booking. I understand that I get credit on cancellation as a voucher credit. Even that is acceptable to me. However, their insistence that the ticket credit would only be in the name of passenger and not the person who paid is ridiculous. It is not feasible for my sister to return to India and use the voucher credit.
If you stay outside India - DO NOT BUY AIR DECCAN . Their refund policy is to give a voucher credit( after deductions that too) valid for 180 days in the name of the passengers cancelled. This is only if the ticket is designated as refundable that too. How can you use the voucher if you do not live in India?
I am amazed that they did not also add some more arbitrary criteria like that the new flight has be at 4 am as well to ensure you simply cant fly Deccan or ever get a refund that you can use!
When I pointed out the problem to them, they just pointed out their policy with a user friendly url!
Other airlines, in my experience, are honest and say non-refundable when they mean no refunds.
I hope other travellers take note and buy knowing the consequences of concellation.
