Ladies and Gentlemen
Stop that girl. That girl running up the aisle - stop her. Thats the girl whose voice you heard and loved tonight. Shes the real star of the picture. Kathy Selden.
The audience applauds Kathy and convinces her to stop. Don starts to sing to her**:
You are my lucky star, I saw you from afar, Two lovely eyes at me, They where gleaming, Beaming
, I was starstruck, **Youre all my lucky charm, Im lucky in your arms, Youve opened Heavens portal, Here on earth for this poor mortal, You are my lucky star.
With tears in her eyes, Kathy turns and walks toward the stage. He approaches and reaches out to her and leads her onstage, as they finish singing together and embrace. Kathy is finally appreciated as a star in her own right. The End
And you will be smiling as they were smiling.Singing in the Rain, Suggested to me by my Fiance.Regarded by many as the finest musical movie. It is a fantastic mixture of dancing and humour.
The plot of the film is actually an autobiography of Hollywood itself at the dawn of the talking movies. The story is about a dashing+romantic silent film star Don Lockwood)and his glamorous screen partner Lina Lamont who pretend to be romantically involved with each other. They are also pressured by the studio boss R.F. Simpson to change their silent romantic drama The Duelling Cavalier) and make their first sound picture, renamed as the musical -The Dancing Cavalier. Theres one serious problem, however - the temperamental Lina has a shrill, screechy voice. The stars ex-song-and-dance partner Cosmo proposes to turn the doomed film into a musical, and suggests that Dons aspiring actress and girlfriend Kathy Selden dub in her singing voice behind the scenes for lip-synching Lina. The results of their scheming to expose the jealous Lina and put Kathy in a revealing limelight provide the films expected happy resolution.
There is a wonderful cynicism throughout "Singin in the Rain", with everybody either kidding themselves or pretending to be something they are not. The tone is perfectly set at the start when Don(Gene Kelly) tells a gushing radio interviewer the career path to the top he and his friend Cosmo(Donald OConnor) followed. "Dignity. Always dignity" Don says but flashbacks reveal a less than glamorous grind up through pool halls, burlesque shows, and vaudeville slapstick. Kathy pretends shes a serious actress, then is discovered leaping from a cake in a skimpy chorus-girl costume. Lina believes the studio press office handouts that she and Don are an item.
The studio boss RF Simpson(Millard Mitchell) convinces himself talkies will never catch on, and rues his words.
This cracking musical pushes all of the right buttons with its sparkling script, tremendous songs & dance numbers, fine acting and charismatic performers. The concept of a movie within a movie is handled with style and panache, utilising in-jokes, old props and self-effacing remarks which apply to more than just this picture.Especially smooth is the way in which scenes change from the present to the past, or to the movie in production, by gliding through the screen or panning to a new perspective. The acting is both excellent and convincing(for all of the major players) but the real stars of the movie are the musical sequences, such as the title song scene where Kelly leaps and tap-dances his way through the puddles. However, there are many equally fine moments such as the "Broadway Ballet" triumph, featuring a guest appearance by Cyd Charisse with a 25-foot long white silk veil - gorgeous.About Music-
