I have experienced many adventure sports. This is one of the most amazing sport, the experiences of which I would like to share with you. It was summer of 2001, when I planned to go to Jersey shore and jump off the plane. Many people had varied opinion, most of them did not have the courage to do it. As a child, I had seen many people especially the military and many sports personnel taking part in this sport. I always dreamt that I should do it at-least once in my lifetime.
I got an appointment at the Jersey Sky dive center on a beautiful day on summer. Along with me there were six friends of mine. Five of them came there to make the jump. Only 3 of them finally did, the rest two turned to be a chicken. But at their personal point of view and its OK for them not to take the risk because they did not feel it safe. The first thing you need to do is sign a document exempting the sky dive center from any legal law suits, due to injuries or death caused due to this sport. Apart from this the only requirement is that the person attempting the jump should be less than 240 pounds in weight. After this we had to go to the landing area and wait for our turn. There were a lot of people waiting there to jump. Our turn came late in the afternoon at about 6.00 PM.
First thing we have to do is change our clothes and wear goggles to protect our eyes. We will be strapped tightly with a professional skydiver and make the jump. There is also an option to get pictures and video of sky dive in the sky. All this costs about $300 in NJ. Its a lot of money, but believe me the experience is priceless. We jumped into the plane, it was small aircraft, with six people sitting in the back. My friend was the first to jump. I was a little bit scared and nervous, but then I was more excited. We flew up about 10000 ft, and we ready to make the jump. When the doors of the plane opened it was cold, but I did not think about the temperature as the height scared the shittt out of me.... It was my friend who was first going to make the jump. I could see the feeling on his face. He was scared to death. When he jumped... in seconds he turned to be a small object, from that altitude gravity pulled him down to earth. Now it was my turn. My legs were out of the plane. My trainer was sitting behind me strapped to my safety belts. And the photographer was sitting beside me. And then I heard the word LETS GO. Only for a moment, but I could feel like something pulling me towards the ground at that great speed. The next moment I felt like I was flying in the air.
If you havent experienced how a bird feels to be in the sky this is the best way you can. I said IT IS AWESOME. The world around me... Sky in different colors... and the calm and quite environment. Free fall was for about 45 seconds, which is just amazing. Once the parachute opens, its like a quite environment. My trainer was a very professional diver. He also taught me how to maneuver the parachute and how to swing and have fun in the air and how to land on the ground. I cannot describe the experience, but all I can say is that ITS DIFFERENT. If there is any adventure that gave me greatest thrill and fun, Its SKY DIVING. When I reached the ground the first thing I ever said was I WILL DO IT A MILLION TIMES IF I COULD.
One thing I decided after this jump. If I m in search of thrill and fun... Roller coaster is not the place to be... ITSTHE SKY...
