A Millionaire in Quality, No Slumdog

Slumdog Millionaire :-: Scanned

How the hell, seriously how the hell a brit guy made such a movie. what was he thinking before making this movie. This movie just demonstrates, the Brilliant Art of Film Making. Easily a movie that can be put into the category of the likes of Mithya, A Wednesday and Mumbai Meri jaan this year. I can’t belive it that this is the second back to back INDIAN movie made in Britain, which is brilliant. The first one ofcourse Shoot On Sight.

Shoot on Sight anyways was destined to pull off a stellar quality, courtesy Naseer Saa, but this one has no such thing. Irfan Khan and Anil Kapoor’s cameos were there but yet th show was stolen by a guy whom I have never heard before of, Dev patel.

Plot:

without wasting anymore time and getting philosophical, let’s get down to the plot. Its the story of Jamal Khan who is being interrogated by the Police cuz he is an uneducated fella, a Chai Wala at a call center in Mumbai. He has already reached the bar of 10 million rupees and the police+the organisor of the show had doubts in mind that he had cheated to get the answers from somewhere.

Well in the course of interrogation he tells the police as in how he answered all the questions and the answers to them was taught to him by a crude reality called LIFE. Every question he answered was linked to a story and hence he gave the answers to all of them. I wont reveal the situations from where he got the answers becuase that is the Strong point and the catch of the movie. His stories involves a lot of characters like his brother Salim, girlfriend Latika, Underworld Don Javed, Cild peddler Memon, etc etc.

Directions and other Tech stuff

The narrative of the fim is just top class. The back the directors takes into three time sections is just awesome. Generally Hindi films which take a flashback approach get me as confused as Aamir of Ghajini but this one was dead straight and the movement from the police station, to the KBC studio to Jamal’s insight of life was handeled so deftly that one coudnt resist getting curious of the proceedings in the next frame. 3 cheers for a wonderful job Danny Boyle. U deserve the applause.

Music is good, though nothing to praise about. But I guess it went along with the plot really well.

Camera has been ably handeled and the Slums of Mumbai have been shown without any manipulation.

Performances: Dev Patel is the star of the show. A true masterpiece performance. is diction, expressions and body language are all awesome. This is what I call a complete performance where its hard to find a single flaw.

Anil Kapoor as Prem Kumar was adequate as the TV show host. Frieda Pinto as Latika was good.

The Young Guy Ayush Kehedkar, who plays the youngest Jamal in the film is again a shopw stealer. A Child can deliver a good performances, its not hidden any more.

Irfan Khan, Saurabh Shukla and mahesh Manjrekar are all okay.

Overall: Resting on a low budget and a theme which may not appeal to many a people who die for scenes shot in New York and London with heroines cled in Worth Rs. 50, 000 Saress from karol Bagh Delhi , but this movie will be cherished by every Genuine Fan of Cinema.

A Modern Day classic.
