Am I a Russian???

The Title is what its cos Vodka is mostly associated with Russia. I was a Rum drinker myself and found that I can’t drink much Rum in Chennai cos of the heat and dehydration I get after drinking it. The amount of dehydration that you have to endure is based on the source of the alcohol, whether fruits or grain or sugar cane etc etc. (Srikanta correct me if am wrong:-)

I realized over a period of time, after many experiments that Vodka drinking is the best option in Madras. It doesn’t de-hydrate me as Rum and I don’t usually get a Hang over the next day.

About Smirnoff

Probably, its one of the best Vodka available today. This vodka is 40% Alcohol by volume or 80% proof.

Its now an American Vodka i.e. the company is based in the US of A but the Vodka actually originated in Russia. Smirnoff ensures quality by double-distilling the alcohol though charcoal and some other process that gives it a very pure and distinctive flavor.

Bit of History to bore you with

The Smirnov as it was know in the old days (old means in the early 1800’s) originated in Russia and was later brought to the US of A, re-christened as Smirnoff during the 1930’s and was subsequently bought by a drinks company incorporated in USA.

Availability & Prices

It’s widely available in across the world, and in India as well. I have felt that the Stock is bit scarce (or does it seem to be scarce?) in Chennai and you won’t find this brand in all the wine shops (Wine shops in Chennai lingo means shops where you get alcohol). But it’s available in most of the popular ones.

There is no fixed price in Chennai at least and it ranges anywhere between 375 to 450 Rs for a full bottle (750Ml) depending on the place where you are purchasing it from.

How I Drink

I have couple of drinks every other day, and it really lets my creative juices out, and most of my favorite reviews were written sipping my favorite drink, the Vodka Lime :

Vodka Lime

How to make it?, its simple really. Take a big mug (I drink Vodka Lime in a mug :)), pour some Smirnoff Vodka into it, put 5 ice cubes (it should be 5 else it would spoil the drink), Cut a lime into 2, squeeze one half into the mug and put the squashed half into the mug as well. Pour water to taste:-) The other half of the lime is for the second helping (or second round as I like to call it).

Ranjran’s Rainbow

Actually, its not that great but looks good. Take a wine glass, pour some Smirnoff Vodka into it, crush couple of ice cubes and put it in. Now, pour 30mn Guava juice, then 30ml Orange Juice and finally 30 ml Mixed fruit juice into it. Don’t stir, keep it aside for 5 minutes and they try the drink.

Note:You can use Dabur’s Real Fruit Juices for this, they are good

Chilly Vodka

Only the very adventurous should try it. Take a bottle of Smirnoff. Open it, and pour 1/2 bottle into a jug. Cut 3 green chilly in circles and put in the jug. Transfer the contents into another bottle. Keep it in the refrigerator for 3 hours. Then have it on the Rocks. Man, you will never forget the flavor. (If you are making this with Romonov Vodka, you can put the Chilly directly in as it doesn’t have a dispenser)

What I feel about this product

Smirnoff is undoubtedly one of the best Vodka available today, and I like the flavor and fact that is available anywhere (At some places you need to know the right people though:-))

I love Smirnoff, but I prefer Absolut when I can get it, I like it more.

So guys, a brief review about one of the best Vodka available and some of my favorite cocktails, hope you enjoyed it. By the way, the my pic shows me drinking a Vodka-Peach Drink at TGIF at bangalore.:-)

Peace

Ranjith

Some Thoughts...

Most of the times, I encounter Smirnoff whenever I travel to Bangalore. I visit RSI(An Army Club) at MG Road and they serve only Smirnoff if you want Vodka. The wonderful climate of Bangalore, the great crowd around you and some of the best friends with whom I normally sit there, makes each sitting a very memorable experience.
