If the Himalayas are the gateway to paradise then the gateway to HELL is the Snowview Hotel in Chakrata.

Hotel SnowView, is located in the lush green hilly surroundings. The sight was chosen for a hotel by brithishers in 19th century. But SnowView is modern hotel with spacious clean rooms, full modern bathrooms, budget friendly rates and unmatched hospitality.
Surroundings: well beside the view from the joint the hotel has a few trees on the front. But as you move towards back of the hotel where the view can be seen, you get a dump. The place stinks of rotten garbage.
Modern hotel: hahhahah joke. Its looks like a decomposing dump from the 19th century.
Spacious clean rooms: spacious only cos of the high(really high) ceilings rest is normal spaced large rooms.
Clean: If India had a sanitation department this place qualifies to be torn down.
Full modern bathroom: Full modern doesn’t not mean Indian style filthy toilets, dirty tiles, black wash basins
Budget friendly: Rs900 is not budget
Unmatched hospitality: 1 owner / 1 cook and 2 waiters who barged in on you and provided delayed service.
My experience in room number 5 on the 22dec2007
We booked a suite that meant 2 rooms and a bathroom.
The outer room had a small twin bed. A run down sofa, a centre table whose sunmica was all over the place. and filthy.
There were black filthy patches all over the room.
The doors had a layer of dirt on them.
There was a run down TV, whose remote was handed in after 2hrs.
The quilts and bedding were 3rd class quality. We used our own sheet / blankets.
There was a lock on the door but we had no key and we asked for it over 5 times to no avail.
There was a fireplace in the outer room and that at least worked. It costs Rs 50 per round of wood. We wanted to start it off at 6pm and told they guy at 5pm but finally were serviced at 7:30pm
Now the yuckiest part the toilet….it was filthy. It smelt. Had mildewed tiles. The Indian style loo was stained. It stank. The taps were dirty. The wash basin was black with stains.
I had to call the get this cleaned and prob only water was thrown.
The food was ok nothing great. Again a delay dinner was asked for at 730 but was served at 830pm. We had ordered Dal, veggie, rice and rotis at 6pm. But there is only 1 cook and 1 waiter so we just waited it out.
The joint has 1 main waiter who is rude and overworked. He barged into our room without knocking over 3 times. And hence we had to lock the door.
He barged in and counted to see if we had extra pillows or quilts
He barged in …disconnected our dishtv( we were watching a movie) plugged in another to check it. No asking or anything.
It was disgusting.
Morning tea was ordered for at 0630 am but got it at 8am
We were booked for the 3 day trip there and just checked out the very next morning. Could not stand another day.
We then moved onto another hotel which we were lucky to find and started our vacation a fresh from there. My review on the Himalayan Paradise can be found on this site.
DON’T EVER EVER EVER think of the Snowview hotel. I would not even suggest it to my enemies
