Alanis Morissette Shows Growth and Maturity.

So Called Chaos is Alanis Morissette’s fourth studio album! An album I think deserves alot more credit than it was certainly given! Alanis stays true to her rockin’ roots here! Alanis released the mellow track Everything as the album’s first single! The single did fairly well on the singles charts and topped out as a top ten hit for Alanis! Everything is a track that certainly screams autobiographical, like albums that proceed Chaos! I feel this is a song written for her fiance, actor Ryan Reynolds! She tackles a deep subject here, considering how many people have misjudged Alanis as an angry person, so Alanis lays it on the line! She says in the song: You See My Light/You See My Dark.....and no matter how much of an emotional roller coaster Alanis has taken in her life, she says in the song: Your’e Still Here! I personally feel this was her ode to Ryan! Great song and I certainly reccomend you to listen to this song! Alanis does keep you rockin’ on this great disc! The upbeat Out Is Through has the same style as songs like Not The Doctor, or You Learn! Not really a negative tune, but a song about just simply ending a relationship that needs ending! She is trying to tell you the listener that you and only you can break the chains, nobody else holds your key to happiness! A great mellow track on So Called Chaos is a song called Doth I Protest Too Much, a song about someone in Alanis’s past. She speaks of how she has moved on and now that she has, this person does not really cross her mind as he once had! I like how she tackles this! A song many of us can relate to! She speaks of how she is not jealous of this former boyfriend’s new happiness, to his surprise, she is happy too! She tells him how she is not dependant, or jealous, or even worried! This is not a sad song, this is actually a happy mellow tune! I certainly reccomend this one, you may find that you will play this song over and over again! Not All Me is a great tune as well! Very mellow, and deep in lyric! Alanis finally learns a valuable lesson in this thing we call life! She is finally not taking the blame any more and she is actually taking alot of weight off her shoulders here! Sometimes in life, when one is unhappy, or when one has had many things happen to them, we tend to blame ourselves! Alanis is learning to not to do! This song also has a forgiving tone to it as well! This Grudge is also a song that falls under the same catagory as Not All Me! She knows that it is time to let go of all the pain, all the unhappiness! Two Thumbs Up for this great ballad! She is ready to fly now, and ready to forgive whoever hurt her! Maybe this is partially written for the You Oughta Know guy ( and still to this day will not reveal who that powerful song was about )...maybe this song is also written about her family, and also past friends who done her over! This power ballad is soft, and very beautiful! Lyrics are deep here and the music is great! Set in a Stevie Nicks sort of styled ballad, Alanis really wows you here! The title track, So Called Chaos is dark! She speaks of everyday life, like she did on You Learn, or All I Really Want! Even though the music edgy and dark, it still has a positive effect on the listener! Also a dark and deep track on Chaos is 8 Easy Steps! This had a very unique video! She basically shows most of her videos that were released and putting herself over her own self! A great effect! With fancy camera tricks, they put her own mouth over hers! She moves backwards from her current self, starting with the Everything video and working her way back, all the way to the delivery room as a baby! This is a must see! The song rocks, and the song is also deep in lyric! The last track to tackle here is Knees Of My Bees! Going back to the interesting styles of India that Alanis really enjoys, she puts it here! This song is probaby written about Ryan Reynolds too! She is happy to be in love and happy to have found a relationship that just makes her all giddy inside! The music and lyrics reflect a woman in love! So Called Chaos is a great album, and in Alanis’s typical style! Nothing much different from what she has done in the past! Keeping true to her own biography she, writes about her life! If you like Alanis and have not picked up this great disc, Do so!!!!!!! Garunteed you will not be disappointed!
