Sony Clié SJ-22 is wonderful PDA

I bought Sony Clié SJ22 PDA in UK during mid 2003. Since then I use it everyday till today (Oct 2005). I am very happy with it. Sadly, Sony doesn’t make Clié PDAs anymore.

This PDA has 320x320 high-resolution screen. This resolution is crystal clear for photos. I have added a Sony Memory stick as an external memory.

Its RAM is 16MB, which is quite for day to day work. Its size is compact. It even fits in your shirt pocket. Battery life is quite good. On single charge, it works for a week (I use it 10-15 minutes everyday). Its OS is Palm 4.1. However, it doesn’t support sound. Only Palm 5 or above PDAs do support sound.

It comes with a USB connector and CD for installing HotSync software (which helps synchronising files in PC & PDA).

You can transfer files using infra red between other Palm PDAs!

It doens’t come with many built in applications. However, I loaded lots of useful applications from Internet. Remember how useful your PDA becomes often depends on what application you load on it. If you search over internet, you can gets lots of wonderful Palm applications for free!

It has a jog dial on side, which helps in scrolling long documents.

Its backlight is quite powerful. However, you can save battery life if you turn off backlight in broad daylight.

So far, I did have to reset it few times (both soft & hard) following corrupt applications but everytime I got my data from backup in PC.

As Sony no longer makes it, you can’t buy it. However, there are similar (and often better) PDAs are available nowadays.

A word of caution - some of my friends who bought this after 2003 complaint about battery life. Even Sony couldn’t fix the problem. Most probably, because of these problems they stopped manufacturing the product.
