I just bought the SONY DSC W5 from the authorized dealer at Pune. I also bought a 1GB memory stick with it.
It was a good buy as the instructions were easy to follow and a SONY person came to my house & explained me all the major features. But one has to be enthuthiastic enough to explore & make best use of the camera. I learnt most of the normal features by reading the enclosed leaflets.
PRICE
I bought the camera for 10500 (after 5% discount on MRP) & 1 GB memory stick for 4500. Plz note that there is a major price difference if you buy the memory stick from a sony exclusive showroom & from some sony dealer. The Sony exclusive was quoting me 8000 for the same memory stick.
I am still at loss of any reason why there can be so major difference between the prices at two Sony outlets. One said that there is a major price drop after gudi padwa. Yet to confirm from Sony site.
Photo quality
Overall speaking the photo quality is excellent for 5.1 mega pixel images. You have other options also if you dont want 5.1 always. You can go for 3, 1 & email size also.
Also there are lot of other options also based on photo shoot condition
Optional memory stick
Also I suggest you to buy the 1 GB stick as it will allow you the flexibility of recording of upto 45 minutes in standard mode alongwith taking snaps. One thing I forgot to tell you is that alongwith video, you can record audio also & audio quality is excellent to say the least. The internal memory of 32mb is too small for any much use.
Others
Its supplied with s/w CD and all required cables, so no need to buy any more.
Fairly compact considering the price.
Presently coming with free carry case (worth 990 as per Sony but doesn’t look like).
Finally this comes with 3 year warranty and 0% finance (processing charges of 800 if you pay in 16 installments & 640 if 8 installments).
Although I have completed only 4 days of my buying, but I am very much satisfied.
