Good One from SE :-)

My Current Phone is Nokia 9500, Just before that I was using the SE P910i.

Sony Ericsson P910i.

Build Quality

Build is very good for the phone. The stylish metallic finish on the body. The graphite color, most people will love for it. However the keyboard on the SE was too small, it will be easier for the small fingers to type but not with bigger fingers. I had used Sony J5 a long time back, which used to have the Jog Dial on the left side of the phone, I always use the phone on the left side so I found the same feature of that in the P910. I almost use that very well. Its one of the advantages you get, which you dont have with most of the smartphones on the market. The Sony DUO Memory stick is well placed in the right side of the P910. This is very good, its very easier for us to open and take it out. This is just like the pocket PC’s. Also you can remove the keyboard and make it just useable with the stylus called the open mode. I felt the P910i is very sexier without the keyboard. But it is more prone to scratches on the screen. But of all its a good model and well built.

Performance

It is quite slow when compared to Pocket PC but very faster when compared with the Nokia 7710. When the folder is closed you have much less functions to do, like even you wont be able see the SMS which you have moved to personal folders. And moreover currently there are more Symbian UIQ applications for the P910i. So you can download as per your requirements and try it out. Most of the built-in applications doesn’t have an EXIT/CLOSE to perform. This makes the phone get slow. Also Sony Ericsson is giving free upgrades over their site. I did this for 2 times and it worked out very well. Even with the keypad open you can enable a virtual keypad.

Messaging

Messaging in this SE P910 is very good. Since its a smartphone with stylus, you can always use the stylus to write down and it recognize the characters. But mostly we people use the one hand to type the sms, those time the closed keypad with the predictive text will be very useful. I also tried using the e-mails with the GPRS connection, it connected flawlessly. The email supports POP3 accounts as well.

Media

Lately, almost every brand of new phones are coming up with the mega-pixel camera. But I dont really understand why the SE higher end model doesnt have this. Also it doesnt have the FM radio. But still the camera does its job. The best thing about the camera, it has the option for Message Video and Message picture. This is very good if you send the video/picture using MMS. As you will spend less for the data transfer. The built-in MP3 player is good and it gives the stereo output. Also the headset which comes with the package is very good. It has two speakers one for specifically for the ringtones and the media player. Another for the phone. Also the camera has a short cut key for faster access.

Connectivity

When it comes to connectivity, this is where SE has to improve a lot. Nowadays its very common for a mobile to have EDGE connectivity. But such an higher end phone has only IR & Bluetooth. No Wi-fi, EDGE and 3G in this phone. I tried both IR and Bluetooth connectivity, everything works great. Wi-Fi is the one which is very common with the Pocket PC’s but not on the smartphone segment. I tried connecting my Laptop, my Brother’s K300i, My Imate Pocket PC, My Nokia 9500, HBH-600 and HBH-608 bluetooth headset. It connected with ease. But nowadays all the pocket-pcs are supported for SDIO card, so that you can go wireless. So SE has to improve a lot in terms of connectivity.

Pros

Office connectivity. You have quick office which are Microsoft office compatible. Blackberry is to be implemented soon. Brighter screen, better pixels. Good Sound and easy to handle. Not bulky.

Cons

Better camera resolution. More connectivity. Priced bit higher.

Conclusion

Very good phone which can compete with most of the smartphones. But still SE has to improve on the connectivity side for it to be a winner on the smartphone segment.
