Hi people..... here I am to write a review on T610. Well, frankly speaking, I dont have a T610 right now.... however, it got washed away with the Mumbai rains and I still regret losing it till day. For me, I started my cellular life using a Nokia 3310. it was the sturdy phone at quite an affordable price. At that time, like most other users, I had presumed that I would be using my phone only for calling. But, as time passed, I started using it more and as most other users, I also started feeling the weight of the phone and started looking for a new phone. Frankly speaking, I am not a phone gizmo that much and I just go to a shop selling cellphones and buy without much reading reviews or asking someone. My friend has a N-gage at that time and I was impressed by the looks of the phone and the gaming feature. It was a rage at that time. So, I went to a shop nearby and started talking abt the features of N-Gage (i came to know there are two of them one is normal and one is QD). Then my eyes went on T610. I asked the shopkeeper which is this phone. He mentioned a Sony Ericsson T610 and he started mentioning the features of the phone.
Believe me, my first impression of the phone was really mind-blowing. I got carried away by the professional look of the phone and features it offered much more in contrast to the Nokia counterparts at a much cheaper price. So, I just went for the phone at that very moment and believe me I donot regret shelling out Rs. 7500 at that moment. (i believe it must be priced around 5 or 5.5. grand now).
Reviewers, I donot want to bore you people with stuff like weight, height, etc. See, I really dont understand such features and dont really care. What I am more interested in the area of usage and value for money feature.
Pros:
# Price is really affordable
# The Overall looks are really sexy and damn professional.
# The Joystick feature was one of its kind at that time. Nokia copied it for its 6600 and was a runaway hit. Now, Nokia is trying in vain to put the joystick feature in its every recent phone
# Camera is okay.. not in comparison to the recent photos but yes, if u dont have anything then u dont really mind do u. The day light pictures come really good, but the phone fail during night or dim light.
# The phone is really sturdy, , , believe me.. it may look delicate to you, but it isnt... A person like me drops the phone every now and then but still manages to recover it quite well.
# The battery life is also good. I used to charge the phone once in 2 days after extreme use.
# The bluetooth feature really rocks. At that time, at such a cheap price, u didnt use to get the bluetooth feature. Nokia copied that too for its now lower end phones. So, it was really nice to transfer pictures, games, etc. with friends. Even, I used to surf the net using the T610 thanks to the bluetooth feature. Please donot go for the phones nowadays with the infra red.. it really sucks especially with Nokia phones like 6610. Even I used to transfer a lot of pictures from net, using the bluetooth. U can do it using datacable.
# The phone supports a lot of game formats like Java games, .jar files, etc.
# supports GPRS.. so can surf on phone too. even it has buttons on side to directly log on net using GPRS. Even camera button is there on side. Like I mentioned earlier, the buttons are well placed for maximum size.
# the sound clarity is superb. As it supports some of music formats other than mp3, the sound can be listened quite clearly.
# the vibrator is quite strong for the phone. if the phone vibrates, then it is bound to wake u up even in the deepest sleep.
Cons:
# The phone really fails on one feature that is data space. I believe it has only around 4 MB storage capacity, so if u transfer photos with big file sizes, then it becomes difficult to tackle it. U cannot insert additional memory card in it to increase the storage space too.
# doesnt have mp3 or radio-fm feature. (However, afterwards, I bought a Sony Ericsson handsfree using which u could even listen to the radio. It cost around 900 bucks).
# the phone used to hang a bit if u store a lot of data on the phone. I presume that is a problem with many recent phones especially the high end ones.
# Camera clarity fails in dim light/night. Also, does not have a flash light feature to increase the clarity of pictures.
# The joystick after a year of usage didnt have the smoothness as it had initially.
Overall, I will give the phone a ranking of 4/5. I will recommend this phone who hate Nokia phones and are fed up with them. Also, this phone is quite affordable and worth every penny. So, if u want a phone with great looks, so-so camera, dont require a radio/mp3, bluetooth feature(to surf net), affordable price, then I would seriously recommend the T610.
