I recently purchase W850i. Previously I was using Nokia. I need a phone to have a very good sound output and good reception and that’s why I choose SE. The phone comes with in inbuild 16 MB memory and has provided external MM2 card of 1 GB , a charger, USB cable to transfer the files from computer and while you connect the phone through USB, it start charging the phone.
The phone is quite remarkable and looks pretty quaint, especially the rear view. At 99 x 47 x 14 mm , 262.144 color TFT (240x320 pixel resolution), weight 94 grams. The phone is thin and bottom is slightly curved. The keyapd is good and not hard to use. Phone supports EDGE, GSM 850 , GSM 900 , GSM 1800 & GSM 1900 networks.
The phone has a matt finish, so no fingerprints will be visible on the phone.
The phone has lights on the side-plates that change with the theme/music/caller. The lighting scheme of the phone makes it look very colorful and cool and can be customize according to the caller.
The User Interface (menu) is fast, and didn’t slow even on nearly full 1GB memory card. Themes has features like animated menus, slight vibration while moving from one menu icon to another etc.
One unique feature of this phone is the inclusion of the pedometer. Pedometer counts the number of steps/strides/leaps you make before it resets in the night. You can manually enter the distance you are going to travel, and the motion sensor installed calculates things like calories burned, steps taken etc.
The phone has a world clock, alarm, stopwatch etc. You can change themes and wallpapers. The phone comes with Bluetooth and USB connectivity. It also supports A2DP for listening to music through Bluetooth stereo headsets. Browsing the internet from phone is really surprised me, it is quiet good. I think opera web browser should be included in the phone for browsing.
The 2MP camera is pretty good. The camera has no flash and auto focus, which I think is the phone major drawback.
The music performance is top class and even Nokia does not came close to it. Phone also features ’shake control’. You can simply change tracks by shaking the phone with an combination of walkman key. Don’t worry it will not change the track while you are on move. The speaker sound is quiet loud as compared to other SE phone. The phone has a walkman 2.0 and music management is good in the phone. The player comes in orange and can be changed white or black. While at the standby screen the player is always one click away – just push the Walkman button. Double pressing will minimize it back to the standby.
The bundled in-ear earphones (HPM-70) are using Fast Port interface connector, the cord has a 3.5mm jack to connect other earphones. The quality of the headphones is one of the best.
The W580i has two applications, which are Music Mate 2, a guide to various musical instruments. The other one is Walk around the globe that does the math and shows you the distance between your location and any other point on the globe, also it provides some info on countries.
Another unique feature of this phone is TrackID service. Through this you can find out song information when listening to it on radio or recording it via microphone.
The W580i has memory capable of storing up to 20 FM radio stations and the auto-tuning ability, with RDS feature and FM quality/reception is good. Through RDS, song/radio information is been displayed on the screen and currently "Fever FM" is capable to handle the RDS in India.
The Phone book is too quiet good. You can store other information for an particular contact in the Phone Book. Phone has a print mode to print the images directly to printer along with Transfer and Phone mode.
Phone has a RSS Reader, all you have to add a RSS URL and it will automatically read the RSS and display the information.
Battery life lasts for 3.5 days on very normal use and if you listen songs and make/recieve calls frequently it will last for 1.5 days. if you unlock the phone without sliding it open, there is no way to lock it unless you enabled the keyguard feature. You will have slide it open and shut to lock the keypad.
