PS:This review on SONY is written only in the context of WORLD CUP matches that it is telecasting.
After waiting for four long years, we all look forward to the WORLD CUP......the biggest event in SPORTS.But this time it looks like, this event is going to be a big flop show, and the reason for that being SET MAX, SONY....who have taken the rights this time to telecast the matches.As we say that there is a time and place for eveything, the same goes for these TV CHANNELS, SET MAX is not a sports channel......so it would have been better had they stuck to airing those Hindi films and serials.CRICKET is not their cup of tea.Who on the first place allowed them to telecast these matches, when we have such wonderful SPORTS CHANNEL like ESPN, STAR SPORTS.And also the fact that we are so accustomed to watching cricket on these channels, that we cannot enjoy it elsewhere.
MAX is making a complete mockery of WORLD CUP, their presentation is ridiculous.Why do they want to combine BOLLYWOOD and CRICKET, i mean WORLD CUP is such a major event, there is no joke going on, that they have to discuss films and serials along with cricket.....during their telecast of matches.And where have they got this CHARU SHARMA and MANDIRA BEDI from......what has she to do with cricket, can she even properly spell the world cricket, they both have absolutely no knowledge of cricket, and they themselves are clueless of what they talking....there is no fluency in their commentry.....coz they are not themselves knowing what they have to speak according to situations.Before the WC, in the ICC TROPHY.....they had RUBY BHATIA and GOORAN BABA, who were pathetic with the capital P, and now there horrible display of buffoonary continues.And what is this with MARIA GORETTI interviewing every cricketer before matches, as to what your fav colour, actress, author is?What is going on?I am really zapped with the on-going proceddings.....
There telecast is so poor.....sometimes on par with DD, the day I was watching the INDIA\HOLLAND match on MAX, there was another match going on SONY, and on MAX SRIKANT and some other moron were doing commentry......but they were showing pictures of the SOUTH AFRICA\KENYA match.....that was happening on SONY.Technically these channels can never be equvalent to STAR SPORTS, ESPN.....they are class apart.And what makes matter worse is the set of commentrators......MAX has, SRIKANT, PRASAD, ROBIN SINGH, KAMBLI, MANJRAKER, IAN BISHOP, ARJUNA RANATUNGA, ANSHUMAN GAIKWAD, ARUN LAL.... now you can well understand the amount of torture and pain the viewer has to go while watching the maches.Half of these people are not aware what they are speaking....and the other half irritates you to death with their boring commentry and faces.And on top of it.....MANDIRA BEDI, asks and discuss films and serials, with these guests of honours.....in EXTRA INNINGS, which is like a discussion forum where all these people sit together and are suppose to discuss cricket.CHARU SHARMA and co have killed my interest in the WORLD CUP....and most of the time their reactions to everything is so artificial and fake, as if they are forced to sit their.
I am really dissapointed......i was expecting so much from the world cup, and when I say WC I do not mean just the matches......but also the commentry, discussions....which takes place before the start and the end of the matches.I am really missing the ESPN , STAR SPORTS team of HARSHA BHOGLE, RAVI SHASTRI, GAVASKAR, BOYCOTT, SIDHU, IAN CHAPPEL, ALAN WILKINS...they all rock, they have so much knowledge about the sport, they speak with so much enthusuasm, and hold your interest with their commentry.....like I can sit for hours and hours in front of my TV SET, when these guys are speaking.
I think everyone is dissapointed by the way SONY has approached the whole event.Now the only thing that can keep me glued to MAX.....is the matches of INDIA, coz I cannot leave it for anything in the world.SONY should thank its Stars that INDIA follows cricket so religiously otherwise......they would have had very poor TRP’s and ’ld have suffered heavy loses.
