There are some things which you have to see it to believe it.. the movie sooryavansham is no less.. created in 1999 by E.V.V. Satyanarayana... is a masterpiece.. I saw it twice.. but still got confused on the story.. which went haywire...
The movie features Amitabh Bachchan( in double role - father and son), Bindu, Anupam Kher, Shivaji Satam(I love him), Kadar Khan(I love him too)...and few more..
AB Sr., Thakur Bhanu Pratap Singh is a zamindar of some village and has a God like image among the villagers. Deshraj Thakur, a village badman goes to jail as a result of the judgement given by the Panchayat headed by Bhanupratap and ignoring his own misdeeds develops vengeance against Bhanupratap.
Now, Bhanupratap has 3 sons and Heera is the youngest and some girl Gauri is brought up by Bhanu Pratap and attends the same school as Heera. Heera and Gauri are intimate friends.. and this friendship develops into love..(Karan Johar is not the only one in this love-friendship crap). Now... Gauri is ill-treated by the teacher.. and heera lost faith in education.. and so bhanupratap, disgusted by this attitude... starts disliking him... inspite of this, Heera tremendously respects his father. Gauri goes to the city for higher studies and returns well qualified whereas Heera remains uneducated. To the proposal of marriage of Heera and Gauri, Bhanu Pratap reluctantly agrees, but Gauri rejects Heera. Heera is devastated...
Now, for some unknown reason.. gauri tries to commit suicide.. and heera saves her and takes the blame(???) of the rejection on him.. Now.. Radha, another educated city girl comes to the village.. and when she learns about heera’s failure in love.. she starts loving him.. but for the ’kahani mein twist’, her marriage is fixed with deshraj’s son.. Radha’s mother (bindu) extracts a promise from Bhanupratap that Heera should not marry Radha and Bhanupratap in turn takes a promise from his son that he will not marry Radha. But on the wedding day.. heera enters radha’s house on a bullet enfield and elopes with her.. Ultimately when the marriage of Heera and Radha takes place by sheer force of circumstances, enraged Bhanupratap throws his son out of the house.
So now, they stay at anupam kher’s place.. and on the suhagrat... radha being a sensible girl.. says ’hum apni suhagrat thode din tak nahin manay to accha rahega’ what she meant was that as they have to start from the scartch.. they should wait.. so now.. heera starts to leave the room.. she says that.. if we can control ourselves.. we can sleep in one room... Then, when he starts to sleep on floor.. she says.. that if we can control ourselves we can sleep on one bed also.. now amazingly.. there is lightening.. and scared radha embraces heera.. and says.. ’agar hum kalse control kare to...’
Now.. heera.. starts off as a bus driver.. but eventually starts his own transport company.. and becomes a rich man.. and radha also completes her IAS studies.. and becomes collector in the same district.. The couple is also blessed with a boy.. who is named Bhanupratap.. Under strange circumstances... Bhanu Sr. meets Bhanu Jr. and Sr. learns that Jr. is his own grandson.. and their friendship blooms!! They meet afterschool.. and play.. Now, Heera starts some charitable hospital.. and Sr. is proud of his son..
Now.. deshraj to take revenge.. poisons the kheer which Jr. has got for his ’friend’...By the way.. Jr. and Sr. address each other as ’dost’..and just when Sr. was about to call heera to ask him to forgive him for being cruel.. and that he is proud of him.. the poison shows its effect.. and he has to be hospitalised.. Outside the hospital, deshraj convinces the villagers that heera poisoned his father.. and enraged villagers attack when heera comes to see his babuji.. just when deshraj was to kill him with his sword.. Sr. suddenly comes to his rescue.. and reveals the truth about deshraj.. villagers are again enraged, this time at deshraj.. and father and son are united.. and in the end.. they all break up into a melodious song, the music of which was given by Anu Malik..
