Chicken Soup for the “Sole”

I was first introduced to Knorr soups by a friends mom when we had been to her house for lunch. We were a group of 6 and two packets of Knorr Chicken Soup had been emptied to make this sumptious pre-meal course. The soup was piping hot and we sipped it gingerly till the last drop. It was certainly delicious.

I have always liked soup and have tried to experiment with various varieties, hence Knorr did offer me a wonderful new world of possibilities. I particularly like the ones you get at the Chinese stalls with the spicy ?Hot & Sweet Soup? with the extra spiciness.

But unfortunately for me, at home, nobody else likes soup very much. The Big Knorr soup packet makes a meal for atleast 4 people. It is also priced slightly high and for one person, you cannot finish the entire pack in one go. If you leave it open for a few days, it loses its freshness the next time. So it is advisable to use up the entire pack in one sitting. With this problem, I found it difficult to get the big pack.

Knorr Annapoorna Soupy Snax

It was a few months ago when at a supermarket, I came across these little sachets which were priced Rs.5/. This was the Knorr Annapoorna Soupy Snax. Each sachet contained some powder along with some spices and croutons.

Method of usage

In the big Knorr soups, you empty the contents of the pack into water and boil it for a few minutes. Due to this, the powder gets completely cooked and mixed with the water. The consistency of the soup is also varied according to requirement.

But in the case of Knorr Annapoorna Soupy Snax, the usage is much simpler. You just have to boil water and pour it into a glass or bowl. Then cut open the sachet and empty the contents into the bowl and stir well.

Taste

Due to this method of preparation, the powder does not get cooked fully. As you sip, you can actually feel some rawness in the taste. Even the combination of spices is flawed. I found one of the flavours over-spiced and in another, it was quite bland. The croutons are few and far in between so you do not get many crunchy bites.

All in all, it is quite an unappetizing experience.

P.S. I had bought 4 sachets of which I tried 3, hoping that it is something to do with a particular flavour and maybe the next one would be better. Unfortunately, the bad experience was repeated. I just could not get myself to try out the last one. The sachet is just lying around in my kitchen. In case anyone is interested in a free sample, do email me and I?ll try to figure out how to send it across to you. Till then, happy souping (with other brands)!
