I have lived nearly ten years in Spain, have traveled the country extensively. Each city like Barcelona, Valencia, Granada Cordoba or Madrid has its own special character, nightlife and entertainment. But Mouthshut.com allows you only to write about Spain and not the Spanish cities. So here goes:
Flamenco music and dance, bullfights, fantastic beaches and lots of sunshine, Spain has to offer much more than that. It has beautiful cities and towns. Its various regions are all different one to each other, geographically, climatically and even in personality. It is a fascinating country to know, a country that has been dominated by most diverse cultures and civilizations during its different historical periods.
Like all European countries, Spain too was part of Roman Empire, and remnants of the Roman culture is still visible but its recent history goes back to when Muslim armies crossed the Straight of Gibraltar to Andalusia and ruled the country from Cordoba and Granada for 700 years till they were defeated by the Christian kings. Moors, as those Muslim rulers were called left the country with stunning architect in the form of The Great Mosque of Cordoba and Alhambra, the castle at Granada
Bullfighting is certainly one of the best-known Spanish popular customs.
This Fiesta could not exist without the Toro Bravo, a species of bull of an archaically race that is only conserved in Spain.
Flamenco is a genuine Spanish art. It exists in three forms: Cante, the song, Baile, the dance, and Guitarra, guitar playing. Gypsies are very often named as its fathers, and at least it can be taken for certain that they played an important part in its creation. But also the popular songs and dances of Andalusia have influenced early Flamenco considerably
Spanish cuisine is based on the healthy Mediterranean diet of olive oil, fresh produce, fish and seafood, legumes, cheeses, meats, and of course, wonderful wines--from the famed Rioja reds to the fortified sherries of Jerez de la Frontera or the sparkling cava wines of Catalonia.
Tapas (Snacks) are a varied array of appetizers found throughout the country. Popular tapas are the Spanish tortilla--a potato, egg and onion omelet; paper-thin slices of Serrano ham; spicy chorizo sausage; or shrimp sautéed in garlic and olive oil.
The country can boast about the renowned painter Picasso, discovery of America by Columbus and the architect by Gaudi and of course the most dreaded dictator Franco.
