Review : Special Squad is an investigative weekly show aired every Monday at 10:00 PM.
Special Squad is a special team of investigators and forensic experts who put together their brains and skills to crack crimes, basically homicide which hasn’t left many clues behind.
Aryan-strong, intense, silent and a hard-core professional heads the investigative department while Mr.Ved, an irritant gruff middle-aged man but professionally brilliant and unmatched heads the forensic department. Shaina- beautiful, intelligent, resilient and hard assists Aryan and shares a compassionate bond with him which stands on the edge of turning into love.
Ajay and Neha are other two major characters-a cool dude with a serious and sensitive girl who play an on-off love game even as they handle heinous crimes.Another one is a grim, proud but intelligent forensic expert who really doesn’t think much of investigators and feels that Forensic plays the prime role in cracking crime.
So, this is the special squad , replete with brilliant officers and forensic experts but each of them has personal demons to fight, personal tragedies and traumas and internal conflicts with each other and yet they triumph together as a team to emerge as the best weapon against crime.
First thing, Special Squad is technically brilliant and tops all other Star One weeklies as far as direction is concerned.Of the starcast, actors playing Aryan, Shaina and Mr. Ved are clearly the best even as the rest of the cast is also adequate.Aryan is good as the SS head who has only one unsolved crime in his brilliant career- murder of his wife and daughter.
Shaina is always on the edge of a nerve-crack-up over her son whom she wants to keep away from her awry and irresponsible ex-husband, but aryan keeps her calm.Mr. Ved is almost like a machine and has never been able to come to terms with the tragic murder of his daughter, Priya who was also a SS member and was killed by a criminal’s daughter whom Mr.Ved sent to jail.
The best part about this seris is that it doesn’t try to project these investigators as super-humans---they are like you and me, even they react to pain and death, only they are the best in their field which is a little different from the normal. It is quite a serious drama even though the happy-go-lucky Ajay pitches in the comic element.
The problem is that it basically caters to the intelligentsia because it goes into every detail of investigation and focusses a lot on the forensic part. By the way I too learnt something in Forensic Science from one of the episodes... Cocaine Shot-- a nip in the liver which doesn’t cause much bleeding or pain, infact the wounded person can walk for a few minutes and a little distance...and then? drop-dead. I never knew anything like this.
You can definitely watch it instead of other weeklies on other channels...if you are the one for investigative series and interested in Forensic Science.
