For authentic banana leaf iyer/iyengar style food

I’m a huge fan of authentic banana leaf style lunch. Whenever I go to any of the tamil iyer/iyengar  weddings, I tend to have a royal feast. Mouli’s catering offers excellent+ quality for this  brand of food.

On Sat and Sun, for lunch, they serve special meals only. And generally by 1.30 pm this place is busy, so please make your reservation before going on these days(see the telephone number at the bottom of the review).

Name of this place: Mouli’s Annaporni.

Location: In Cambridge layout(close to CMH road and 12th Main Indiranagar), opposite to Global Access mobile phone shop, near Sai baba temple.

Parking: If you reach here by 1.00 pm on weekends, you will get parking right next to this restaurant. Otherwise, there are plenty of free parking available along the road. You may have to park 100-300 meters away from the restaurant.

Ambience: Very comfortable seating with nice soothing carnatic music in the back ground. Over and above the restaurant is really clean. Inspite of the crowd, they manage to keep it spic and span. This to me is one of the most attractive thing in this restaurant.

Food: As I said earlier, sat and sun, authentic tamilian style lunch served on banana leaf. After you are seated, banana leaf is laid and the helpers will start serving the food.(very similar to the "Pandhi" concept in iyer wedding)

Generally here is the menu - Pachidi, 2 poriyals, Khichidi, one kootu, vadai, variety rice of the day(lemon rice/puliyodarai), chips, appalam, curd vadai, pickle, sambhar, rasam, More Kozhambu/Vetha Kozhambu, curd, rice, parrupu, ghee, sweet of the day(Chakkara pongal/semiya payasam/ milk payasam). Every thing; yes everything  is unlimited. The guys who serve will take good care of you and ensure that they serve good portions and are very prompt.

They also have a good collection of exotic ice creams, which is not a part of the special meals.

In the evenings(after 5pm)  they serve tiffin like sevai, adai, podi dosai etc. Sevai is not hand pressed, it’s dragon or concord sevai, so it’s not all that appealing.

Cost: Per meal it’s Rs 80. Tiffin for 2 ppl(4 items overall)+ 2 filter coffee will be  approx. Rs 150- 200

To cut the long story short, here is my take - If you love this brand of food, then you should not miss this. Take your parents also and they will fall in love.

When my parents visit me in Bangalore; during one of the weekend, we skip the  breakfast, then we visit the balaji temple in Domlur in the morning, and unwind ourself at this place for a sumptuous lunch by noon(with Maharajapuram Santhanam’s carnatic vocal playing at a low volume in the background. can’t ask for moire in life!)

Being a tamilian iyer, my mother makes amazing food of these type. Still this restaurant is some thing my parents, wife every one enjoys and generally after lunch we want to get back home and have a nice siesta:)

Tel number - 080.32915155

Recommendation: Try the Sat, Sun special meals or  evening tiffin

Lunch timings - 12.00 noon till 3.00 pm, tiffin from 5.00pm, CLOSED ON MONDAY
