I find people who have opined about St james court resort have had bad experiences one way or the other .I should say we were fortunate enough to not have had experienced anything unpleasant, infact it was a pretty relaxing stay at the st james court a few weeks back in Pondicherry.
Located opposite to the Pondicherry Engineering college, its roughly about 6-8 kms away from the centre of the UT.
We checked in on a saturday noon. The reception lady in charge did give a suspicious look seeing us (5 guys) all clad in fancy summer wear. She insisted we pay the complete amount full then itself with an extra double grand as a deposit. It could be debited if at all we chose to eat there and rest returned, she said. The rooms were great , each one with balconies overlooking the beach.
The resort had a kind of big backyard with a swimming pool and vegetation here and there. And , beyond that was the beach , with a gate and cement compound in the backyard restricting the entry both ways. We duly jumped into action , beginning with great spirits and food. Yes , the order and service did take a lot of time, but food was ok.
The next 24 hours we amused ourselves with hours of cricket , first in the beach and next in the backyard, drenching ourselves in the seashore and then in the swimming pool. We had the beach to ourselves and literally spent half the next day there. We reduced the room temperature to as low as 17 in that sweltering summer night and slept like apes through winter hibernation.
Overall it was absolutely good . Service and response was indeed a little sluggish but the people there were pleasant mannered. Dont expect any state of the art swimming pool, Its ordinary but fun enough. And splash in a little early in the morning to avoid later swishing in murkier waters. Dont go with high expectations , because it is still a budget resort , and in that place of much posh and overpriced places , its even a better one. Expect fun and good relaxation , St james should do.
