I have been having an account with ANZ Grindlays (now Standard Chartered Grindlays) Bank for a few years now. Compared to the Indian banks (the nationalized ones!) I find the Grindlays highly professional and efficient.
I have been able to transact business with it over phone which I have not been able to do with Indian banks. A few months ago, when I was in urgent need of cash, and the Branch where I have my account could not access my account because of sudden failure of its computer system, I called up the regional head of the Bank and apprised him of my problem. He took down my phone numbers and said he will get back to me in 10 minutes. This he did stating that he has arranged for cash at the Branch where I have my account and I could send someone with an authorisation letter and collect the cash. The Bank on its own sends cheque books without demanding them, by making calculations at its end about the cheques leaves likely to be remaining with the account holder. When required it also arranges for transactions at the account holders place.
I do not find such professionalism in Indian banks.
