Manhattan Credit Card-sucker in disguise

When I decided to have a credit card, I chose Manhattan Card as it was the only one that is free for life. I along with few of my friends was pulled by this attraction. But once I started getting my monthly statements I observed they charge you around Rs100 for no rhyme or reason. It was more like annual charges in installments/monthly charges. Another attraction is the dicounted passes to movies (only Inox-most expensive theatre in Mumbai and is located in the main city). So friends, don’t be fooled as nothing comes free in life!

In every statement, they informed me of getting some bonus points. When I earned 1000 points. I thought of redeeming them. Usually in a retail store one can redeem entire loyalty card points during the next purchase. Don’t be very happy when you earn points using a Manhattan card. As, even though you make purchases running into thousands, you may just earn few hundred points and if you are looking for redeeming those points, it is a hassle! You need to first make a call to their Bangalore call centre (As a cardholder I had to run a search on the net, as the toll free no. given on the card had changed). I called up the call centre executive and they told me I could redeem just half of the points I have earned. If I can redeem just 500 points why give me 1000 bonus points on first place. I received the next statement and was taken aback to see the points hadn’t been deducted. When I called back the call center, they said the call centre hadn’t registered my previous call requesting to redeem the points. Thus to redeem 500 odd points, I ended up spending more money, time and energy. So I wouldn’t recommend this card to anyone.
