You buy a policy that clearly states that if youMiss a Departure or a Connection you will be reimbursed for the costs you incur for stay(if delay is longer than 6 hours) and inclement weather is the cause of your troubles.
Thats exactly what happened to us in Japan. A severe Cyclone hit the country right at Narita Airport and lots of trees fell down and electricity lines were damaged, which resulted in all forms of transport coming to a dead halt. Roads also got blocked with fallen poles and trees.
We missed our flight from Narita to Los Angeles.
But, Star Health insurance says, we cannot accept your claim, because your flight got cancelled. Wow. A cancelled flight that resulted in a missed Departure which they promised to reimburse.
In fact, it was not cancelled. The flight left, without passengers, because no one reached the airport. For exigency, the Airline sent a message of cancellation, because it would be easier to re-book passengers on another flight without charging for it.
A small claim of around$150 for a$5, 00, 000 policy and they try to get out of paying for it. Imagine if the problem was bigger and the sum payable larger.
AVOID STAR HEALTH INSURANCE TRAVEL POLICIES. They only want your premium amount but have no intention to settle claims.
