A STAR IS BORN

Venue Planet 2000; 18th Jan 2001, the lights glitter; the cameras flash and the movie cameras are rolling. On the stage is that Indian superstar Amitabh Bachan and Star

TV is officially launched in the United Kingdom. James Murdoch, Diana Hayden (remember the first Indian Miss World?) and other UK TV celebrities have congregated to witness the glamorous event. Only the media mogul Murdochs who own

Newspapers like The Sun and News of the World could come up with such a lavish launch.

Star Plus & Star News went on air on Sky Digital on the 15th January and have

Taken the UK Indian audience by storm. Zee TV was the first Indian channel, followed by

Pakistani & Bangladeshi channels and then came Remiscent TV & a local Indian channel

Channel East. Zee TV was already clouded by Channel East but now it seems that Star TV, with its format, fresh concepts and digital filming is going to outshine the Indian

Channels (from India). Already Indian viewers are talking about switching over their subscriptions to Star TV (upto end of March it is free).

I have watched the Star Plus and I love it with its programmes like HASNA MAT, HERA PHEERA and TU TU MAIN MAIN. And Star News? Finally we in the UK and Europe can get up to date news about our country of origin, round the clock, rather than a 10-minute slot of the stale news on Zee.

Star Plus and Star News will soon overtake the Indian visual media in the UK and if it manages to initiate some documentaries about the local issues of the Indian community

It would serve the purpose become numero uno in no time.
