Hey Friends,
This is another routine Sheldon novel. But when I say that it is a routine novel, it means that it is a great entertainer. Just like all his novels, this is also a fast novel and full of surprises. It has all the ?ingredients? of a typical commercial novel ? drama, love, emotion, thrill and stuffs like that. It is no doubt a good novel for beginners, but for other regular readers who have been reading much more serious fiction this one might be a good change but the problem for regular readers will be that they will be able to finish it very soon, say like a day or two at most.
Still it is a good novel by every angle. Sidney Sheldon is a master when it comes to entertainment.
Written in a plain and simple language, it is the story of Lara Cameroon. She is born at in poor place called Glece Bay to a father who remains drunk. She has got the looks and zeal to become real estate developer.
First, she succeeds in Glece Bay, makes some money and moves to Chicago and struggles there but finally becomes a tip name there and then moves to New York where her troubles begin.
Real Estate Development is a predominantly male dominated field, especially keeping in mind the background of story and the years in which story is going. But Lara chooses to excel in this very field. She succeeds and becomes a celebrity. She creates buildings, sky-scrappers, big malls and makes big name and money for herself. But she sacrifices a lot of things for these things.
Lara becomes a source of envy for her male counterparts in the profession.
Then Lara falls in love with Philip Adler, a professional classical Pianist. There romance goes on and they get married.
Phillip is also a celebrity but both have totally different professions and busy lifestyles. Problems start to creep up in their married lives. They both love each other but are not able to manage their careers and private lives. Their relationship starts to turn sour. Then someone attacks Phillip and his left hand gets permanently damaged which causes his career as a pianist come to a premature halt.
Precisely at this moment something happens and the lives of Lara and Phillip are changed forever. There are such amazing twists at this point that you just want to read on. It is a great story to read. Of course there are amazing twists in the story before this moment but it is completely unexpected what happens after the above mentioned incidents.
I am not going to disclose the story here for the benefit of the readers, it is good to read and I ?d like you people to find out.
The only flaw in the novel, I guess, is that its ending is a bit absurd. Especially the last couple of pages, rest of the story is absolutely fine. The ending is just a little bit awkward. But despite of the flawed ending, The Stars Shine down is a great entertainer.
A perfect reading on a boring weekend.
Happy Reading,
Mr. Gautam
