It has been about eleven years since I have an savings account in Kahalgaon branch of States Bank of India. It is largest bank in terms of capitalisation and assets and it is way ahead of its competitors in this regard. But it look like one as far as its workings are concerned. They clearly do not live up to their name in a lot many things. For instance, I had to fill in and submit the Know Your Customer ( KYC) form twice because they apparently misplaced it the first time. I am not sure if the second time they did get it done or its still pending. Thats not the only time I have faced such problems. Last year I somehow lost my ATM cum debit card and so had to apply for a new one. God, it was tough ! First I travelled all the way from Kolkata ( where I am presently studying) to Kahalgaon ( it takes an over night journey to reach there) so that I could follow the required procedures and submit the given form. After waiting for a unjustified amount of time ( read months) , when I went back to the branch to track the happenings, I came to know my form has been rejected. Not only did they did not inform me by any means, they didnt even provide any reason for the rejection. So, again I had to follow the same procedures and voila, after some months they did send me a post saying my new ATM card has arrived. Phew ! Only they can understand how it all works. Such a basic thing takes so much time to be done. There had been other incidents as well. Like once, the branch manager and other officials brazenly said that they wont make my demand draft for no particular reason. Can you believe it ? I had to bargain a lot to get it done by them. So, this is the state of affairs of our so called largest bank of India. I wouldnt recommend it at all.
