STEPMOM - A PERFECT MOTHER'S DAY MOVIE

A mother’s love for her child is like nothing else in the world.

It knows no law, no pity, it dares all things and crushes down

remorselessly all that stands in its path.

(a quote by Agatha Christie)

This is the emotion that has been brought in the popular hollywood film ’Stepmom’.

I was wondering what to do and decided to watch the television for sometime, hoping to find something good on air. But I was wrong, I didn’t find something good, I found something so touching, moving and entertaining that the movie I saw (which happens to be none other than ’STEPMOM’) became my most favourite movie. It was awesome. A great family movie. I loved it! I’d give it a straight A+.

It’s a dramatic movie in which a mother (Susan Sarandon as Jackie Harrison) fighting against cancer has to cope up with her husband (Ed Harris as Luke Harrison) and his new love (Julia Roberts as Isabel Kelly). Amidst this her adorable children have to suffer the chaos between their mother and step mother. Initially there is a sort of a competition between Jackie and Isabel as to who’s a better mother. They have nothing in common. While Jackie is perfect mother who devotes her full time to her kids, Isabel is young and hip who is ready to do all for her children but cannot let her photography career down. Isabel indeed tries very hard to make the kids accept her into their lives. But in the end circumstances force them to come together. Some scenes are worth remembering for your lifetime but I won’t spoil the show by telling you. It may sound typical but I’m telling you that it’s different and worth watching.

The immensely talented star cast steals the show. They have all acted really well and deserve to be complimented. It is one of the best Julia Roberts movie. She brought special light into the film. Ed Harris won the award for the best supporting actor for this movie. It may not be perfect choice for people who don’t like drama. Nevertheless, it includes many comedy parts. The film has been structured beautifully by linking the feelings of both the mothers. It shows how divorced families live. Heartwarming and real - two words to best describe the movie. Make sure you have lots of tissue papers and bowls full of popcorn before you begin watching.

’’Be there for the joy. Be there for the tears. Be there for each other.’’

The very tagline of this movie fills you with emotion. I had tears in my eyes after watching ’Stepmom’. Watch this movie. It is sweet, honest, funny and above all a perfect movie for ’Mother’s Day’.

I’d like to quote again to conclude this review and to show the feeling of love for my mother that this movie has brought out of me.

A woman has two smiles that an angel might envy, the smile that accepts a lover before words are uttered, and the smile that lights on the first born babe,

and assures it of a mother’s love.
