I have been to subway only twice in my life. I only went the second time because my cousins had never been to a subway and wanted to got to one. I regret going both the times. Let me tell com you that I have been waiting for subway to hit India because I really love sub sandwiches and have been watching Subway in hollywood movies and they looked so yummy. The first subway I went to was in Bangalore. A scene took place over there from which we should have taken a cue and left the place.(i will refer to myself as Me) There were three of us. Me I am open to any food as long as it tastes good and is healthy I really have a taste for all kinds of food. I dont mind bland food. I always argue that bland doesnt mean tasteless bland means less or no spice. Food can still be tasty just like mashed potatoes and butter tastes so good.(we will call him the ’’Yuppie’’) Another person a urban call centre executive who thrives on KFC(now he has stopped eating junk food for his own good) He just loves KFC even though I never liked it. The third guy a hardcore desi. Educated loves tibetean food(tibetean food is bland too so our desi is not blinded by spice) but is dead against burgers and pizzaz.(we will call him the ’’desi’’) We three were having an argument after we entered the place the desi kept saying this is all ’’cold’’ food lets go from here and the yuppie was convincing him I was like lets try it it used to look great in the movies. At that time an american couple entered in and they just looked around and asked the subway staff ’’is this the same american subway’’. They said yes and the firangs just walked off saying that they just dont believe it. Then after a lot of convincing we decided to go in for a 6 incher with all the works. We took the whole wheat brown bread which was great. We all took same things with turkey and chicken only mine had a lot of jalepenos, olives and only vinegarrettes, no mayo and other fat based dressings. First of all the sandwich is cold. I mean really cold you just cannot taste anything. There is absolutely no diffference between the turkey and the chicken. Well the desi kept cursing but the yuppie kept saying that hey this is good you just dont like it because it is cold. Now our desi is a noisy guy he went to the counter and asked for a manager who was not present and then he started telling the staff that how can you sell cold food this is not edible and then staff tell him you could have heated it. Oh great we all gang up on him because that bugger kept giving us options for each and everything but never gave the option of having a heated sandwich. Now here also they just put in the the bread to melt the cheese. If we wanted bread he would ask us which bread white or brown then after that with sesame or no sesmae, 12 or 6 inches for salami turkey or chicken but neve asked us if we wanted the cheese melted. We finished the subways I ofcourse asked the staff to put in more vinegarrette which saved me I guess. Then a whole argument between the desi and the yuppie. After an hour my stomach was feeling strange but I already anticipated that and had grabbed a double lime soda on the way while they choose not to drink anything because ( ah I forgot to mention this) the frappe which we ordered at Subway was watery. The reason they gave was that the machine had not got cold. I gave it back but these guys had already finished it. Then after that the desi started saying he is going to puke on the road we were still roaming and the yuppie was making fun of him. After and hour believe it or not the yuppie puked on the road. Yes he vomited his entire subway out. The desi somehow controlled it but had a stomach ache for two days. Seeing this I drank almost 4 double lime soda with ginger and pepper for the rest of the evening. Now was the time for the desi to make fun of the yuppie. Lets get back to the food. The food was so bad that the yuppie puked it out and it was blessing in disguise he did not have any stomach ache. The desi suffered for two day because the food was still inside him. I was saved because I literally soaked my subway in vinegarrette. The vinegarreete was a mixture of vinegar and mustard sauce whihc is really a blaster. Then the lime sodas saved me. I vowed never to go in there. The worst part is is too costly. They are literally robbing us for the quality and the ambeince. The place is as big a ’’darshini’’ hotel(selfservice indian idli sambhar joints) But then I go in again. This time in surat. Now surat is a place where all hotels have great food. Suratis have great taste and if it aint tasting good it closes down. Based on that we went there. But the main reason was my cousins just wanted to eat at a subway. you know kids who want a taste of american culture and so that they could just tell their friends they ate subway. I warned them and told them the whole story but then if they would listen so easily all the Macdonalds and pizzahuts and dominoes would close down. So I decide to go in for the under six calories 6inches with a lot vinegar. I also get the cheese melted. My cousins go in for everything with the works. well it still sucked. I seriously doubt that the sandwich is under 6 calories. And no prizes for guessing both my cousins had sever stomach cramps and loose motions. well I was saved because of the vinegar I guess and also that I made my cousins eat half of my subway because they kept saying that my subway wasnt tasting that sick. Keep away from subway. I dont really think this is americas favourite sandwich. Or I think it is time for us indians to stop blindly following what americans like( who know if they even like it). These fast food chains are under attack in america for bad food and for the use of MSG(monosodiumglutamate) or ajinomoto. MSG is the main cause for obesity and headaches it is also addictive and that is why these fast food chains sell so much in the usa and uk. They have learned the hard way and are protesting against it. I think we should be smart and learn from their mistakes rather that follow their food culture blindly. Coming back to subway I would not recomend it. Seriously you can make a better subat home. If you dont find sub bread then you get it at Daily bread in bangalore(ah remembered I have to write a review on daily bread the place rocks) I think we got off easy but the cold food could spread amebiasis and even salmonella and e.coli.
