It was almost a delight to see the Subway board going up on one of the shops on Waterfield road. This place wasnt open yet; I ventured in and asked about it and found out that this was a franchisee opening up. Many a lunch has happened in the past in subways across the US and has lots fond memories. anyways, happened to also land up on the day of their opening in Bandra. not too many people had found it yet, the crew were very nervous etc.
It had not started smelling of a typical subway place yet. have been there once more: yesterday. they got their act together a bit now - but still a group of fumbling people. the breads are still the same, baked fresh. the fillings which make the swich are good and as in the US. however, these chaps have not been able to find bread knives yet and thus have to almost squeeze the bread to be able to cut it - which is a shame. this girl who works the cash gets a bit hassled, is still nervous but has a disarming smile ;-). k, next time I shall tell you her name too. had a smoked chicken swich, and once had a chicken breast swich the other time. the quality of food is good. the service is a bit clumsy and if there is a crowd, it will take a huge amountof time for you to get your 6. but if its not crowded, this might be a good place for you to grab a quick low cal bite. absolutely like the subway places in the US, you can choose your bread, and the fillings which go in, customise as much as you want, with chillies, veggies, sauces, oils etc etc. you can pick up a cookie or a brownie too. but if you are cost conscious - stay out. a 6 for more than Rs 75 is not done. a medium pepsi for Rs 23?? thats just bad.
This perhaps is the single point drawback of the multi national chains and brands - they just convert their USD prices to INR, while their costs are actually in Rupees and infinitely lower - thus managing to fleece gullibles - who keep paying those astronomical prices. For those who have visited enough subway places in their life...this place has started smelling the typical subway smell already.
