Anti-subway movement.. Please join..

It is a kind of tradition at my work place to go out on every friday for lunch (and who would refuse an hour away from work place that too on a friday!).. We go out and eat at almost all the places in and around powai and the new attraction was subway.. In a way it was not totally a new experince as all of us are familiar with subway outside India.. But we didnt realise that we were about to have a new experince for sure..

Subway.. for the uninitiated is just a bread s/w (a foot long) with stuffing.. Me and my friend have ordered for a roasted chicken and a chicken & turkey ham (I am a pure non-vegetarian, which you can easily make out from my other reviews :) )

For the roasted chicken, what we got is a miniature chickenbreast (it felt that the particular chicken shrank to have such a smallbreast) slcied and served with some veggies and a sauce. It is the same story with Turkey and chicken ham. This is ofcourse expected because that is the way a sub is made!

The one thing that was not expected is the bill amount. It was whopping Rs 230/- It includes one combo (read as chips & pepsi) and a very normal ambience.

The immediate thing that occured to me is, go to d-mart which is just a stone throw away, buy all the ingredients (all of which is readily available) and go to my friends’ place in Hiranandani and sit in the luxury of home and feel healthy and pocket friendly for less than 50 bucks..

Can somebody tell me why a s/w at subway should cost way beyond 100 rupees?? I like McDonalds in that sense.. they have come out with 20 rupees menu also and it is really decent.. I go to Mc Donalds, spend 28 rupees (that chocloate softee is worth the money!) and I will happily say that ’I am loving it’..

After a small debate the reason why sub way is selling a cold s/w around 100 rupee mark is very simple.. you and I are buying at that price thinking that it is the best thing that can happen to our health.. but is it really impossible to make that simple s/w at home?? I really dont mind spending 170 rupees on Urban Thadka chicken biryani cos no matter how hard I try I wont be able to make it at home and I need to take out good 3 hours to attempt it in first case and hence it is justified.. Infact in that sense a 1500 rupee 5 star dinner is also justified bacause I know I am paying for the ambience and to see the glitter in my date’s eyes..

But a sub s/w.. give me a break.. I can spend 5 min at my neigbourhood superstore and 3 min at home to save so much money.. Then I have decided and started spreading this anti-subway movement. I keep telling all my friends about what a waste of money subway is.. and I sussesfully manged to convince most of them (including their spouses) not to go to subway..

If you see the reason, then please dont spend away your money at subway and let us together make these MNC bring the prices down to Indian standards!! Till then..happy and healthy eating at home or other eating places :)

PS: I didnt have any bad experience at subway.. it is just their pricing strategy for a cold s/w which made me write this..
