I often visit Subway, Domlur, Bangalore and often have found the staff short on not only food but also courtesy.
This is really the indianised version of the international chain, finally seeing its death in a small roadside dhaba.
I have seen the outlets abroad and how well they are located, near a Coffee World or Star Bucks in a huge shopping mall.
They are generally have a medium sized seating capacity. The Menu is well displayed and the options are varied keeping the local tastes in mind along with the popular ones. The staff is pleasant and helpful. Seeing an Indian they usually dont put up an act as if they dont understand what we are saying. An extra helping of topping is quite oK with them and is complied with alacrity.
The side orders are salads, biscuits etc.
But this dhaba is quite happy tucked next to a Phoolwala and juice junction selling juice in unwashed glasses. The approach to the joint is like you are going to enter a slum dwelling. Phew!!!!!!!! the entry itself is quite repulsive....
To begin with, there are only 4 tables in this outlet as if they either could not afford a bigger place or they decided that they would do that much turnover only. There are hardly any customers there ever certifying the fact that the it is a dying fast food outlet.
The staff waits for you to decide your order, and promptly starts making the subs in gloves that he must have worn in the morning. So are they cutting corners already?????????
They are at times out of stock of a few items. But isnt their menu small already. And I being a veggie, the choice is very limited.
I agree that they have the same selection of bread what they have abroad and they are fresh and soft too. They have also removed mutton from their menu and are concentrating only on chicken items in nonveg. This is purely for health reasons and keeping local tastes in mind. But they surely need to have more subs in their menu. Especially for the veggie people. KFC and Mc Donalds also give us a raw deal. I find the prices quite steep. A paneer TIkka sub is for 79 bucks+ taxes. An extra helping of paneer tikka robs you of Rs. 44 straight away.
The staff who I think is thai has brought his attitude along with him. He is seldom able to understand plain english spoken with indian accent, forget the local people talking to him in Kannada!!!!!!!!!!! That will be the day...
He is quite a kanjoos when it comes to putting the dressings. You have to invariably tell him to put more.
The cheese looks quite sad as if it has gone thru a childs hands. The salad leaves are wilting and the aloo tikki and kababs look old. I always thought that white sweet onions are used in subs. But I was proved wrong at all outlets of Subway. They all use easily available, cheaper local onions , chopped by a masalchi.
The cashier tells you the amount and you pay up and then he prints the bill. He is scared that you may not cough up the dough.
I wonder at times is this how this international chain woos its customers. Is this how they are keeping up to their international image or are they too sure of themselves.
Really indian foodies need to wake up and realise that they are being short changed and should demand equal (sub)standards.
What makes me go back to this joint again and again is that this is somewhere a healthier option than many other fast food options and I love their Paneer Tikka Sub.
Am I contradicting myself already???????
Thats me......
