The Whole Man

An MBA entrance is not much if you look at in parts. A bit of English, a bit of Maths, a bit of logic and flavors of data interpretation etc. Each part if attempted in isolation seems easy. But do them together, in a period of 2 hrs and you will find a difference. The reason being that MBA is supposed to create a person with a wholesome attitude. An individual who can handle diverse issues without blinking. That’s why, getting through an MBA entrance is not even the half way there.

You have to cross the personal interview(PI) as well as the group discussions. In case of the entrance a perfect balance between accuracy and attempts is required. You can never hope to finish all the questions accurately. Not until you are a genius. And if you are, then no reason to worry at all. The best way to prepare for anything is basics.

Get the basics right and then build on speed. Also time your attempts. Draw an efficiency table that tells you how you are performing over a period with regards to attempts versus accuracy. You have to improve both but the onus should be on the latter. Read a lot. Especially business mags. ET. In a group discussion (GD) your only weapons will be your confidence and knowledge. Of course good diction and modulation make all the difference.

There are a number of coaching institutes. Join them but more for the GD and PI practices. Basics are the best for entrances. The institutes claim to teach a number of fast methods but there is no substitute for good basics.

There are a number of good institutes. But choose them seeing what you want. The IIMs are the best. But they are not the only ones. First assess whether you are of that caliber. Then chose your institute. Or else ..the forms come very expensive and spending 10k + on forms is normal. I could do a review of the good institutes but that would take a lot of space. So in case of further info…whoever needs can contact.

One more thing:in a GD follow a PREP format. That’s make you Point, give a Reason for the point you made, follow it with an Example and finish it by reiterating your Point again. Give others also a chance to speak and make your points in bursts of not more than 3 minutes or 6-8 lines. And speak more than once.

All the best!!and after you become an MBA, do some good for the country too.
