The Man of Steel Returns

Full Review It was the hype, super promotions, and love of this legendary icon that get my attention to see the advance screen of Superman Returns last night. It was a packed movie house, television cameras, newspapers, and local movie critics from all over the city came to this premier it was exciting. However, Superman Returns brings on lots of surprises some good, some bad. I thought this was a pretty good movie, but I expected much more. While, Superman Returns does offer a good ensemble of cast members, fairly good acting from this cast, and good appearances from lead actors Kevin Spacey, Kate Bosworth, and Brandon Roth, a charming, and handsome young man most suited for this lead role as Superman. Superman Returns is the spin off of the superman series and is one boring, and long drawn out movie, and certainly not for very young children with short attention spans.

Children at age 8, and older may find this movie enjoyable if they are die-hard Superman fans. It is the special effects, ambience, and good humor that will keep your attention as you sit through this long movie. I sum up by saying if you’re a die-hard Superman fan than Superman Returns is for you. After watching the climatic conclusion I’m sure another installment is in the making.

Superman Returns is written and directed by Bryan Singer, Michale Daugherty (screenplay). The release date for this movie is June 30, 2006. The running time is 2:34. Superman Returns is based on the comic book series by D.C. Comics. Superman Returns is a Warner Bros. Picture.

Genre: Action/Adventure/Drama/Superheroes. Rated P.G 13.

The story kicks off when superman after a long absence visits the lost remains of his planet Krypton. Later we see a young emerging Superman raised on a farm, discovering his unusual abilities with strength, and power. We also see this young boy as a man and newspaper reporter of the Daily Planet, a paper on the brink of publication troubles.

Kevin Spacey portrays Lex Luthor a mastermind criminal who begins his evil endeavor when he’s released from jail because Superman doesn’t show up at a court trial that would have kept Luthor behind bars. We discover that Lex Luthor is residing with his rich and elderly dying bride Lex is also an heiress to her estate. Lex Luthor’s ultimate plan is to destroy the world. Superman’s ultimate plan in his heroic role is to save the world from criminals,   deserters, and rekindle his love of Lois Lane portrayed by Kate Bosworth. That’s pretty much it to this installment of Superman Returns.

Final Thoughts

I’ve pretty much expressed my feelings about this movie. It’s not a bad summer movie; Superman fans will enjoy this movie very much. As I read the closing credits I was deeply touched at the dedication of Superman Returns to Christopher Reeves, and his wife Dana Reeves. As I mentioned earlier, Superman Returns offers good actions scenes, special effects, splendid- city, - sky, ocean- and space-ambience, fairly good acting from the cast and good humor that the adults will enjoy. This movie may be a little too long for the little ones. Over all Superman Returns gets 4 stars. Check out this summer flick you may not be disappointed.
