I, as one of the cinegoers of India and a part of the entertainment hungry community forgive you for making your first two movies, Mr.Gowarikar.
Swades is brilliant, swades is a noble cause. The message is beautifully portrayed by Mr.Gowarikar. The best part about the whole movie is the rustic simplicity. Its down to the roots of cinema making and yet does not fail to drive home the message.
No comparisons whatsoever with lagaan, lagaan was a legend. For the first time in my life I did not feel that it was a daunting and a painfully torturous task to sit through a three and a half hour shahrukh khan movie. Shahrukh has suprised me by mellowing and evolving as an actor after consistently giving repeat performances of DDLJ. Mohan Bhargav is in every NRI, only he is dormant, rather he is supressed by the greed, the good life. This movie aims at waking him up and making our lost brothers return to swades.
I completely banish the view that the movie is long and boring. IT had me gripped throughout. Though some of the songs were avoidable. Performances were par excellence specially Shahrukh Khan. He was into the character as one could notice. Kaveri Amma was great and so were the postman, the cook and this one particular old woman who just manages to say bijlee when electric light first hits her cataract affected eyes. The heroine (sorry guys I dont know her name) was alright.
