After making perhaps the most pathbreaking movie in bollywood, ashutosh gowarikar, director of Lagaan returns after three years with SWADES which is made on a bigger canvas and made with a bigger star with due regards to mr.aamir MOUSTACHE khan...The question to be asked is is swades as good as Lagaan...My judgement is noo..but its not far behind and its a great movie..its not easy to match up to lagaan every time but gowarikar has made a sincere and honest effort with swades...
THE STORY:
Critics have bashed the movie saying its a moral science lesson, a documentary, a film not fit to be spent 30 crores on...My response to them is just get lost!!!...many popular film websites such as INDIAFM and TARAN ADARSH have wrote that critics might give it 5 stars but to them movie deserves just one star...I dont agree with that also and lately I think MR.Adarsh has been giving ratings without watching the movies....Sir, kindly dont misguide the readers who might miss a chance of watching a really good film just becayse they trust your stupid ratings....
Now let me describe the story.MOHAN BHARGAVA(SRK) is a project manager in NASA currently working on GLOBAL PRECIPITATION MEASURMENT...Halfway through the project he returns to INDIA to meet his foster mother KAVERIAMMA(KISHORI BALLAL)
When he comes to INDIA he sees the problems the villagers are facing and it leaves him in shock..He tries to educate the villagers and though he faces stiff opposition from the traditionalists he succeeds to a great extent and does a world of good to the village by constructing a mini power plant for the village..he falls in love with GEETA(GAYATRI JOSHI)who takes care of kaveriamma, an educated girl with modern thinking who wants to see every kid in village being educated...After Mohan returns to complete the project back to USA, he feels that the village and geeta beckon him back, and so he returns for good back to INDIA....
THE PERFORMANCES:
After a long time SRK gets out of his romantic hero mould, and the result is mindblowing...his performance is equivalant to that of aamir khan in lagaan, if not better..he carries the film on his shoulders....the song YEH Jo DES hai mera touches you, stirs emotions for your nation and aspires you...Shahrukh is excellent throughout and all would love to see him more in roles like these...he simply takes your heart with his sincere and mindblowing performance/..
Gayatri Joshi is first-rate...its difficult to say that its her first films..she stands up to SRK and delivers a great debut performance...her looks are simple and sweet and she fits the role like a glove...great job
kishori ballal does a fine job too...she looks lovable as a grandmother and one feels instant affection for her...dayahsankar pandey and rajesh vivek in roles of mela ram and postman are very effective and deliver good performances....rest of the cast is good too...
special mention to lekh tandon in the role of dadaji..even his death scene is very touching...i dont know if he has acted in a film before but he gives a very fine performance also
EXTRAS:
Music by REHMAN is awesome...Ye jo des hai mera, sanwariya, ye tara, yun hi chala chal...all the songs are great and go well with the situations in the movie...cinematography I great too...the rural india has been shot well...
guys I am no critic..just your common 20 year old student...i loved watching the movie...it truly inspired me...i do go to movies to have fun...but swades isnt boring..agreed it makes you think..but its not parallel cinema...swades is an excellent movie with memorable performances and a film which inspires you to do something for your country....
the movie raises a very important question ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country guess don’t need to mention whose famous quote this is!!!
