Finally the long wait is over. Ashutosh Gowarikar is back with another gem. This time with Shahrukh king Khan. Except Swades, I have just waited for one other movie with so much eagerness (and still waiting) and that is The Rising.
This year 3 directors with their last movies as superhit, released their movies. Dil Chahta Hais Farhan Akhtar with Lakhshya, Gadars Anil Sharma with Ab Tumhaare Hawale vatan saathiyo and Lagaans Ashutosh Gowarikar with Swades . All the three have taken their direction to the next level, while farhan and ashutosh both have done a sincere effort to make a serious movie with a difference, Anil Sharma has once again tried to fill all the masala and made a movie even worse than Gadar (sorry to Gadar fans but there were only two things I liked about Gadar, song Ud Ja Kaale Kavaan and that HandPump scene).
Coming back to Swades, I liked the trailors and posters where Shahrukh was not treated as a Godlike character but as a common man. Gayatri looked pretty in trailors and the song Yu hi Chala chal is a gem. All these factors pushed me towards movie hall to see the movie asap.
The Movie
Actors in Characters
Shahrukh Shahrukh khan has done a very-very good job and director has tapped his potential fully. This is the movie where Shahrukh has stepped into the characte of Mohan Bhargav not the vice-versa has usually happens with all other Shahrukhs movies. Remember Asoka, where you see Asoka in Shahrukhs role. Thanks GOD Shahrukh hasnt shown his crooked, tilted eyebrows and tried to remain as a normal person.
Gayatri Joshi Again thanks to Ashutosh. It is a miracle how he extracts this confident, sweet acting even from a newcomer (Gracy Singh in Lagaan and now Gayatri in Swades). Gayatri Joshi has looked so pretty in the movie specially in those Saree dressed scenes. She looks smart and acts confidentally in the movie. How many times you see a person(specially newcomer) acting against Shahrukh and still making himself/herself count, that too when Shahrukh has given his best so far.
Kishori Ballal as Kaveri amma, Dayashanker Pandey as Melaram and the postman Rajesh all have given a brilliant supporting act in the movie.
The Story
Story is well composed and gives more than a message. It gives the message that living life honestly, performing your duties roperly is all just fine BUT there is more that can be done to help of society, country or mankind. Every Individual can make a difference. For we (salaried class, office goers), paying taxes and assuming that Goevernment will take care of everything with that money is not sufficient at all. The same thing is clearly written in the book Ignited Minds authored by our current president and Bharat Ratna in true sense Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalaam.
The Music
Music is simple and melodious. Yun hi Chala Chal is my favorite of them all. I dont have much understanding of different kinds of music. Is that (Yun hi chala chal ) fusion music? It sounds like a mixture of Indian and modern music. In that song music director has very rightly chosen Kailash Kher for the voice of that fakir.
Overall an excellent movie that inspires a lot. Perhaps it may inspire some more people to help Tsunami Victims.
