Swades...........We the people.......
Fact: A very well made documentary will be hard to call it a typical movie, Hats off Ashutosh for trying to make something where there is actually no bollywood connection apart from the star cast, no exposing which has become mandatory now a days, a clean movie made with a clean heart.
True: The plight of Indians , this movie tries to show whats goin on in our country and what should be done, the brain drain aspect is covered in a good way.
About Swades:
What Swades tries to show is how educated people can change the plight of people around them if they want to , if a few literate indians become determined they can bring about a sea of change in their own way and help upbringing of our country, imagine people returning from abroad settling in villages and drafting programs and plans for the betterment of people out there, but actually what majority of them do is settle out there and then also call their relatives and friends in lure of a more luxorious life and greater amount of money.
The story is about the journey of a man , studied in Uncle Sams city and working there in the worlds top scientific research company, helping inventing new techniques for newer procedures of measuring surroundings, working with foreigners and living his life out there with great comforts, great cars, grand house etc.
Then how this guys comes to his homeland India to meet someone of old acquaintance, and then discovers the plight around people , and discovers how we the indians accept things how they are and do not try to do something about it and just play the blame game like aree india ka kuch nahi hoga, yahan sab aisa hi hai, corrupt people here etc etc, and how this guy tries to bring about a small change by giving the village Charanpur its own electricity with the help of the people out there and tries to prove that if people are together so much can be acheived.
Music: Few songs are very good, nice to listen to when ull go for long drives, also must say every song has a meaning and made according to situation, the songs which are really good are Yuhi chala, Yeh jo desh hai mera and Yeh Tara
This movie has great characters, ill mention a few who do make an impact:
The Post Master: Kitne pandav the, remember this guy, who says Paanch, well he plays the role of a post-man here, hes perfect in every role given to him, he got a good presence on the screen , good voice modulation, great acting, he acts dil se.
Melaram: Cool guy, this cook wants to open a dhaba in USA , and how he tries to impress sharukh by offering him partner ship and does all he can to persuade sharukh to call him to america and when the time comes when Sharukh really want to try he declines reciting the dialouge, Diya in my house, light going to neighbours , hehehe, cool dialouge.
Geetli: Ofcourse shes the herione of the flim, shes got a great look of a smart indian and plays it very well, I loved her height and simple looks, her expressions are great too, ill wait for her next movie definetly.
Sharukhan: This guy takes the cream , i love this dude, can fit in any role he wants too, I love all movies of his and this movies shows him in a different role, he gets all the close-ups possible, he looks cool, acts great, all the way a sharukhan film.
Apart from the 4 above, I dont think anybody else has a great impact on the audience, so lookout for these 3.
There are many touch moments inthe movie, I really wont be able to recall all, but definetly I remember one where Sharukhan who only drinks mineral water finally drinks ordinary water being sold by a guy on the station.
Performance by everybody is cool, and everybody has played their part very well, the very fact that they are in the movie actually proves that they are professional actors , so wont be fair to comment on the acting of anybody.
In short, this movie is about Sharukhan, this determined guy who makes a choice and finds the answer for his life and willingly accepts what he is made for.
Final Verdict:
Youll find this movie boring(though I enjoyed it but people around me did not), its kinda slow and documented type, what should acutually happen for this movie to make an impact and to gain the purpose of its making is that it should be shown on Doordarshan where the telcast reach goes in the interiors of India and to the rural people.
Frankly there were moments where I got bored too, so if any of my friends ask for recommendations, I really wont suggest them to go for this movie, will call it boring, well it also depends what kinds of friends you have, I have the freaky kind of nerds around me, but I love them all, more mature needed ;)
