Just Too Good

Well the past week has been a mixed experience for me as far as

reading books goes.On one hand I read Shobha De’s ’’Second

Thoughts’’ and on the other ’’Swami and Friends’’ by R.K. Narayan.

There is no doubt who the winner was. Swami and Friends by some

miles.

The genius of R.K. Narayan comes out in this book. The characters,

the place, the Albert Mission School have all become history, and

to think of that all the characters are imaginary but look almost

real is definitely the creative genius that probably Narayan was

bestowed at birth.

How can one forget Swami’s innocence, the headmasters cruelty and

his own fathers strictness. When I was young I had believed that

Malgudi was some place in Tamil Nadu only to realize my mistake, that is the kind of effect that R.K.Narayan was able to create.

I hope that all MS members read this classic and also recommend it to family and friends. Also if there are children in the age bracket 10-15, they should also be encouraged to read this book.No point in writing reviews of this book.....it is just too good.
