Best Movie of 2007

16-year old committed suicide after failing in exam, another teenager did the same even before getting result (due to

fear of failure)... These days such newsitems are very common. We have became so insensitive that we read such lines

in newspapers, think about it for a minute or two and turn to next page...

"Creative" director Amol Gupte developed this movie in his innerworld for 5-6 years.  Imagine, you are not doing

anything, but still you are doing something which is not visible to others and doesn’t give you anything in return

that too for 6 years. He met different producers with the subject, got rejection from everywhere until he met Amir

Khan (even Amir met him after couple of years of continuous trying). Amir liked the idea, decided to produce it and

thus Taare Zameen Par (TZP)happened.

This friday we have two big releases; "Welcome" a multistarrer mindless comedy and "TZP" very sensitive movie with

child artist in a lead role. It is sad that "Welcome" enjoys full houses where as TZP is getting just average

opening.

Story:

Ishan seems like an ordinary child who is back benchers, below average student. Same Ishan has highly imaginative

mind,  is a master painter and not to forget his angelic face. He is a second child of uppermiddle class family,

having an elder brother who is a topper of his school.

Ishan failed in standard 3rd and fearing the same for second time. He can’t read properly because in his book,

letters are dancing. He can’t write because he is not able to understand the difference between letters like ’b’ and

’d’. These are the symptoms of a disease called Dyslexia which no one is aware about.

His parents decided to put him in Boarding School to improve his academics. He joined boarding school, faced

emotioness teachers and thus became living stone. He is about to collapse but then new Art teacher came to school,

identified his trouble and became his mentor....

For rest of the story, go and watch TZP.

Pluses:

There are too many. Most important is unconventional subject and that too rare and at the same time realistic.

Darsheel as Ishan is 100% natural. Another superb performance from a child artist. During Pre-interval portion, he is

a naughty, imaginative, happy-go-lucky kid and then transform into expressionless thing. You can’t expect anything

better...

Amir as an actor is good. He comes just before interval and gives a kick to movie. Amir is also a producer and

director of the movie.  We should salute Amir "Producer" Khan to follow his heart and make such unconventional movie

which looks very unconvincing.

Amir "Director" Khan is very promising. I will not say the script of the movie is very good because, movie became

little slow in between. Ishan’s and Amir’s character is very well defined but same can not be said about other

characters particularly Ishan’s parents. But let’s not complain....

Lyrics by Prasoon Joshi is too good. Very simple words told in very efficient manner. I put him in the same class of

Gulzaar saab and Javed Akhtar. SEL’s music complement them very well. Congrats to SEL for another great album in 2007

after Johnny Gaddar.

The movie has many emotional moments, and these moments makes this movie a memorable experience.

Minuses:

I’m writing this for the sake of it. As I said, movie became little slow in between but that’s it...

My View:

Last night was very memorable, not because I saw a great movie, but I revisited my childhood. Watch for the scene

when ishan bunked his school, just wandered around and curiousily observed so-called-normal things of life. Close

your eyes, think about your own childhood and compare "your-now-self" with that child.

This movie must be seen by every parents, every teacher. Government should declare this movie tax-free in all the

states, schools should organize special shows particularly for teachers. After watching this movie, both parents and

teachers can understand a child’s mind better. I am just wondering how can we forget that once upon a time we were

also a child.

God Bless All,

Nayan
