Aamir Khan had quite a long break after Fanaa. But, His next movie was his directorial debut. How would a movie directed by such a versatile actor be? Well, chuck those doubts, as Taare Zameen Par can be rated as nothing less than the best ever seen. Aamir Khan has kindled that soft corner is everyones heart, that soft corner for kids. Aamir, has probably given a perfectly silent slap on the cheeks of those parents who brand their kids incompetent, just because they dont compete for the top spot!
The story.
The story is all about a kid named Ishaan Avasthi, who is a 3rd standard boy. Ishaan being a weakling at school, had already failed in his 3rd standard once, and was all set to make it 2 in a row, before his dad does the unbelievable. He is moved out of the normal school and admitted into a boarding school. Now, if you thought that the boarding school made Ishaan responsible and it turned around things for him, think again! These twists are also a reason for Taare Zameen Pars roaring success. Now, Ishaan fails equally miserably at Boarding school too.
Even worse, he is away from his family, the only consolation he had (Ishaan is portrayed as a lonely kid without friends). The boy becomes completely broke and dull. But hard times are short lived and the same applies to Ishaan. By Intermission, the audience are convinced that things are about to change.
As Aamir Khan , Nikumbh, joins in as a temporary art teacher, he spots Ishaan and
goes deep into his past to know about his problem. He discovers Ishaan as a dyslexic and decides to turn around the boys fortunes. As he mends Ishaans weaknesses like a jeweller polishing diamond, Ishaan comes out as a vibrant young kid, whose hidden talent of art had been exposed to the whole school, when he wins the Art Mela. Bigger surprise! Nikumbh paints Ishaans face as his entry into the contest! Darsheel Safaari, though a talented
dancer, had been given a rolw which involved little or no dancing. However, He moonwalks in his school corridor, when he is punished by his teacher.
The music of Taare... has been rocking as usual. As usual? Yes, Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy have adapted their tunes
to suit the kiddo theme. Kholo Kholo, sung by the new find, Raman Mahadevan is the by far the best track of the movie. Title song, Taare Zameen Par , is yet another melodious number from the man himself, Shankar Mahadevan.
In short, Taare Zameen Par is such a movie which LIVES. In the end, you can actually sense that this movie has a heart that extends to every single person who witnessed it! Aamir Khan has turned around the whole country in his debut venture as director.
I say, TZP for the Oscars!!!
