TAG me, won't you please!

Some years ago my darling daughter asked me in that so innocent and guileless way that little children have - Ma, when you die, can I have your watch?

I sputtered and choked, and when I finally stopped laughing, I wiped my tears and asked - Why my watch, baby?

My darling replied - Because Ma, that’s the one thing that’s with you all the time!

That watch she coveted was my TAG Heuer. Years have gone by and I still wear it all the time. Once, with its brushed steel/gold bracelet and discreet gold dial, it might have been called beautiful (in a sporty, well-muscled sort of way) but now can only be described as ‘well loved.’

The reasons why I love my TAG so – it is ultra reliable, is tough, looks good yet doesn’t call attention to itself, and goes with my silver and gold jewellery – everything I look for in a watch.

TAG Heuer watches are Swiss and have been around since the 1800s. They have a reputation -well deserved- for precision and endurance, and have been worn and endorsed by practically every sports personality worth his/her watch, including my hero - Hakkinen!

What makes any TAG special -

Variety - There are enough varieties or ‘series’ as they are called, to satisfy the most picky soul, whether he/she is a Formula 1 fan, a diamond diva, or a regular ol’ you and me.

The cases are brushed steel, steel/gold-plated, titanium, and studded with precious stones.

The dials come in a wide range of colours from boring black to classy mother of pearl to passionate purple!

The bracelets are available in steel, steel/gold, rubber and leather.

And best of all, most of these watches come in 4 sizes – ultra small for bird-boned women, regular women’s, a slightly larger unisex (thank goodness), and a man’s regular.

Precision - There are three different kinds of movements – the Quartz, the Automatic, and the Automatic Chronometer. Whatever your kind, you will find it is reliable; period. Treat it right, and it’s almost impossible to treat a TAG wrong, and it won’t slow down and show you the wrong time ever!

Endurance - Set the date and time, screw the crown in tight so that the waterproof seals are in place, slip your watch on, and forget about it till it’s time to change the date again.

You can scuba dive in it, sky dive in it, fall and land on a hard surface watch face down (all of which my watch has been through) and it will come up still ticking, bezel and seals intact, with barely a scratch on its saphire crystal face.

Who it is for - Everybody, whether a sports-person in the real sense, or a wanna-be; for those who like a simple non-fussy watch, or one that does a 100 different jobs even while showing the phases of the moon and every known planet; for the young at heart and the simply young (my son wears a rubber strapped hand-me -down TAG that saw my brother through college) for those who like their watches chunky enough to double up as an assault weapon, and also for those who like sleek, elegant time pieces - there’s a TAG for everybody!

My verdict - This is the perfect watch to take you from work to play, and every place and activity in between (unless you’re the type that hankers after a solid gold Patek Philippe, or a Raymond Moretti designed Vacheron Constantin!)

With a TAG, there’s no hype, just pure functionality, and it is priceless in terms of reliability. If that’s what you want in your watch, it’s time you got TAGged!

Ps. It’s practically impossible to kill a TAG, so it will most surely outlast you. You can leave it to your children after you die!
