Tarkarli is a small fishing village town. The accommodations are basic and so are the other amenities. we visited Tarkarli from the 23rd Oct09 to the 26th Oct09.
Beach :
The beach is golden sand with a lot of shell fish. so even though the water is clear and the sand is white... the sea is not enjoyable because of the live shellfish. If you want to stand by the shore and let the sea water awash your feet, along with the warm water a lot of shell-fish will also niblle at your feet.... quite a grotesque I must add. The villager use the open beach for their morning rituals... so a morning walks will ensure that you dont get into to the water later on in the day.
Tarkarli great pristine beach is Im afraid restricted to the MTDC, this property is well maintained and non-members are not allowed to venture inside.
Hotel :
We stayed at the Saagar Beach Resort, as I did not get a booking in MTDC. First of all, I would like to say that I booked this hotel after going through the reviews in TripAdvisor and it did not meet my expectation. I planned this trip to Tarkarli long back (1.5 months) and booked this hotel by calling Mr. Kubal on his mobile given in this site. We reached Tarkarli in the evening and I called him thrice on the day to ensure that we would be reaching in the evening and the booking was confirmed. However, after reaching we were given 1 double bed . The rooms were not clean and we did not like it . The floors were covered with oil-clothes which was a very poor attempt in making the room carpeted. The bed was a cemented one with very poor bed sheets and pillows. The doors can not be locked properly from the inside due to broken latches. On an attempt to make the room modern, a glass door was placed in each room but the glass was not tinted and a transparent curtain did the rest to kill your privacy. Every room has an attached bathroom, very basic with a WC and a bucket and mug with a tap with running water, which was dirty and broken. The room was not properly ventilated with only one window. We did not really expect some plush hotels for six hundred bucks but expected a clean homely stay which we did not get. The fish was fresh and we had good prawns there but other items were quite pathetic.
We tried to find rooms in other hotels but did not find any. We also had a chance to look at the rooms of the hotel Sea View and the rooms were good there.
